locomotive 2 of 2 noun : an engine that moves under its own power especially : one that hauls cars on a railroad
Hmm, I wonder how to rig a Kato 105 power chassis under a box car and then a chopped bus or sedan. What does the swivel under the ConCor look like anyway? Anyone have pics?
It appears some have the bus body attached to the box car. How would those articulate with three fixed wheel sets?
I'm thinking using the coupler mount to build a swivel point and then a small diameter pilot under the front of the bus.
The Kato power chassis is exactly 30 N scale feet long and I have used them to build some of my critters. Next you would need to get a suitable bus body for the front. I have 2 axle versions and 4 axle versions using Kato power chassis. You may need to think using HO scale vehicles for the front. Critter by John Moore posted Dec 24, 2011 at 12:52 PM Something like the 1934 bus I used for this critter. As far as a front truck use a steam pilot truck. This one uses a Kato 4 axle power chassis and a cab from a cheap N scale construction dump truck. 100_0013-1 by John Moore posted Jul 9, 2023 at 11:49 PM I already have a Galloping Goose so these are its companions. The front and rear trucks of the Concor Goose swivel while the middle truck is fixed. I would suggest the pilot truck off of an Atlas or a Bachmann 4-4-0 as the front truck for one trying to do a build. And I believe Republic Loco Works had a Goose kit.
What about the separate little two axle power trucks that you can get? I've been thinking of using one for powering a doodlebug but not quite sure how you would mount it into a chassis.
I would be surprised that they did not have a separate mount for those little power chassis. May take some surfing the Japanese venders. But you can. I have made adapters to fit power chassis into a critter. Some .060 by .060 or .080 by .080 styrene strip takes care of creating the mounting platform. A 34 foot or 40 foot shell can easily operate with the rear power chassis fixed and a good swiveling front truck on 9.75 inch rad.
I may as well add this to the thread here as I have posted it already on the Weekend Photo Fun topic.
I think if I ever get to building one it would look something like that. I have combo passenger car. No celestory windows and brake wheels upright. I like passenger service. I would just need to build the Goose. It probably look more like John Moore's and be in HO scale. I will be looking for parts and dreaming.
Great job with the 'Goose'. The pictures reminded me that... ... it has been awhile since I've seen her. Our nearest Walmart and good Mexican food is Cortez, Co. We go over a couple times a year and the Goose is in Dolores only about 10 minutes out of the way when we go there. Need to stop the next trip. Sumner
