I got my SD40-2XR ditch lights in: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkGfI_PesmE"]YouTube - Z Scale MRL SD40-2XR Ditch Light Demonstration[/ame]
I got my 2x3 layout completed enough to take to a train show today. We were the only Z scale vendor in attendance. We seemed to generate a LOT of interest. Very few folks around here knew how much Z scale has grown. We handed out a lot of business cards and MT catalogues. The layout isn't fancy but it worked very well. The train ran 6 hours straight (other than a few stops for track cleaning) and didn't miss a beat. Folks were VERY impressed on how well these loco's run! Pics of the layout: \ Todd
Robert amazing as usual! you never let us down! Todd nice layout. Add a touch of ballast and you have a great look! Ztrains.com has a nice article on how to do that.
*the crowd* OOOOH! AAAAH!! Well done!! That would look awesome runnin' around the layout with the lights turned down!!
Another Saskatchewan Grain Car. Well I have added two new cars to my roster. I purchased 2 undecorated Uncle Will 3 bay hoppers and have created these two cars. The first is a Saskatchewan 4 bay grain hopper and the other is a 3 bay for my own railroad the Athabaska Northern cheerz Garth
Yes, this is the TCS Drop in decoder, and it has 4 functions. You just have to solder on the wires to the LED's, as the resistors are already on the board.
Looks Great Robert!!! I know Don Fedur is coming out with very nice kits to modify your engines (SD40, GP35, & SD40-2). The Co. is called Easy Scale LightingSM. Chris
In my video from San Jose, Don lent me the first one. It is a GP-35 and the crossing lights come on as the train passes the station. http://www.vimeo.com/6848301 5:50 into movie.
So Don F. shows up at my house. Wants his engine back. But we did some Wheelin-Dealin. He will get me some of his kits and get input from me on installation ease. Or not ease.
Well, I would like to at least see a Macro photograph of the parts, well lit, and in focus, so the self explanatory part of his ditch light kit can be seen. Why? Because I am doing 5 more ditch lights for my SD40-2's, and before I waste lots of time, I want to see how Don's kit goes. Where has Don been hiding the past several months anyways?
I'm working on a Intermodal mini switching Layout at the moment. I'll use small mirrors and a Day/Night Background from Jowi to give the whole szene more visual deep and length. I will use a modified Märklin Transfer Table that allows me to pick up a Stackcar while using a GP9. The Transfer Table will be hidden when finished. The layout will have also sound and more Lamp Posts. Stay tuned
That's going to be one lovely layout. I really like the 'busy' look of the mock up scene you've done so far.
Jeff was using styrene, I believe. I routed out the table top and then glued the track in with the rails level with the plywood. When dry, I simply filled in everything with sheet rock patch. The stuff that feels like the container is empty when you pick it up at the store. Just fill everything in with the patch stuff and use a putty knife wide enough to bridge the part you routed out. The edges of the plywood will be even with the top of the rails. While the patch is still soft, push a car several times through all the track sections to make a groove for the wheel flanges. After the patch dries, just sand lightly to remove the little ridges pushed up by the wheels. Make sure the rail tops are clear of the patch if needed. Paint the ground with concrete and there you go. Rails flush with the surface. Same thing can be done to "Run the main down Main St.", industrial areas or even trolley rails. You could paint asphalt instead.
