I did some work around the lake today. It's almost done. Still some details to add. More photos to come as I make progress.
Very nice indeed as usual. Nice to see the canoeist in the water instead of dry land practicing Not sure if I will ever use the word canoeist except in this thread
Thanks in2tech. It's nice to have the canoes in the water permanently. By the way, canoeist seems to be a real word even though it doesn't sound right.
I don't know Boxcab. Trains have been running by them and they don't seem to notice. They appear to be very focused on fishing. They don't even give the trains a glance.
They aren't glued, Junior, they just seem to stay in place. The standing people on the layout are all glued with Woodland Scenics Scenic Accent glue but the sitting people are just placed and seem OK.
I am at the big TCA Eastern Division meet at York, PA. I found a couple of items that were on my list, couldn't find a few, and also found a couple that I didn't know I wanted before I saw them. First, I was looking for passenger cars for my NYC Aerotrain. Unfortunately, I found none. A friend was also looking for them for me and he didn't find any either. My Aerotrain is only 3 cars and I was hoping to pick up 2 or 3 additional cars. A 3 car train looks too short. 5 or 6 cars would look much better. On the positive side I picked up my MTH catalog at the meet and they are redoing the Aerotrain this year so new cars will be available. Oh well. I did find a Nickel Plate Road caboose to go with my NKP Berkshire. I also was looking for LED lighting kits for my Williams NYC Madison passenger cars. The wiring in these cars is old, brittle and broken and the incandescent bulbs are mostly burnt out. The LED lighting will be a big upgrade. Each kit will do 2 cars. I ran across these new cars from MTH Railking. I have 3 military cars, one with a big rocket and two with missiles. They are O27 type cars and they are the only Army cars I have. MTH recently released Army flat cars in both the Premier and Railking lines. The Premier cars are nicer but wouldn't go with the 3 cars I have as well as these Railking cars. This one has a Wolverine tank And this one has a half track That's it for now. I'll post an update when I get the lighting kits installed in the passenger cars.
The lake looks nice, joe. Also like the Nickel Plate caboose. Should make for a nice looking freight with the Berk.
Thanks Tom. The pictures don't do the lake justice. It has a wet sheen in person. I was very pleased to find the caboose at York. I only saw one other Nickel Plate caboose, a bay window caboose, and it was over $40 asking price. I'd been running the Berkshire with an Erie caboose but the NKP caboose looks so much better.
I took a few photos last night to see how they would look with the room lights off and the only light coming from the layout.
I am thinking of adding a staging yard to the layout. I did some planning and came up with this. I will be doing some careful measuring to see if I will have adequate aisle width if I decide to build the yard.
Love the lighting, Joe. Staging yard looks like a good idea, too. If you could work in a crossover somewhere at the top of the plan, you could have a reverse loop. Then you could run trains out of the staging yard and back in when you wanted. Sometimes I really miss the electrical simplicity of 3 rail. BTW, just curious- you have a number of spurs on the layout. Do you run local freights?
Tom, I occasionally run a local freight for a change of pace and switch the spurs. Most of the time I just enjoy watching the trains run. I find it very relaxing. Unfortunately, the 3 track staging yard won't work. The aisle becomes too narrow. I could get away with 2 tracks but not 3. I have to give this some thought.
