Yes actually. Anytime a loco crosses the center with only one way flipped, it shorts out. It's shinohara. All of their switches I have used are live frog and such. Makes switch travel great. But you gotta use insulators on switches and flip all the points on this crossover. Well, until someone says otherwise.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Hey all. After deciding I was tired of working on locos I tried my hand at an experiment. A couple years ago I had to remove a hot tub from a customer's home. The thing was outside and all the foam was water logged. After cutting it in half loading it up and getting home with it, it had to sit in the lawn. Well I got this idea that I could use the foam from the tub for mountains. It's lightweight shreds easy and ends up rugged mountain looking. So there I went. Trash bag and flat bar in hand and went to wailing on that foam. Then I started to build this small scene using foam glue to hold it together and lots of fitting and cutting and peeling to make it how I thought rugged should look. After all that I mixed up drywall mud with water and made it loose like latex paint. Used a chip brush to load up the foam with mud. Any gaps I didn't like were easily cured with peeling little pieces of foam and filling those gaps. Also used old dryer sheets between the foam and plywood to make a smooth line. The dryer sheets have a nice texture and hold plaster really well. This is the first attempt. Let me know what you think... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Actually I have used the sheets before. If you have followed my thread you might notice them on my horseshoe turn. They actually look good. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Reminds me a bit of this method: http://www.modvid.com.au/html/body__frocks_.html Your off to a good start, should look pretty good when completed!
It looks like you picked mostly mold free foam... Hopefully. The end product looks good though! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I really like this idea. A lightweight alternative to your typical '-crete'/plaster products. Especially where future portability is a concern.
Well the dark stuff is dirt and sunburn maybe? It does get alot of sun. I am avoiding foam that is full of dust and dirt. I have found plenty of oddities tho. Like bug eggs. Those quickly get cooked. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I guess I never looked to see if anyone has actually tried it before.. That looks pretty cool. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Here it is two days later with a second coat of mud in places where the foam soaked it up. And adding a bit more further up. I like the way this looks. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
A recent update.its been quite sometime since I have posted anything here. I recently went through a small stroke. I have not lost to much ability. Just some speech and the motor skills in my right hand. My right hand has gone through a lot lately. With neck surgery 3 or 4 years ago and now this. Kinda makes things difficult. Eventually I hope to figure it out. But in the meantime, I am not sure what I can do. I won't know till I try. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Sorry to hear about the stroke Stuff like that usually just slows us down a bit. My mind is still sharp...but my body wont do what the mind says when it says...and it is way to slow Definately annoying.
DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! We are all here to root you on. If you are having a bad day, put everything away, rest up and attack it the next day. You WILL get it completed and we will be your biggest cheerleader! Do you have any fellow MRRs nearby who can give you a hand?
Oh I am sure I will be ok. Giving my young age, and attitude, it should be a fairly speedy recovery. I just hope they can find what caused it soon . Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Time for an update here. Since my stroke in June things have been off the stove. It has been a challenge to find any motivation to get any thing going. I have been working but limited myself to certain types of work. My income definitely took a hit this year. My mind still is not right. I want to be able to recall stories or life experiences I can tell my kids but my mind just draws blanks or is to cluttered to have a long series of memories come out. Its been a real challenge. I did not have to take any therapy. I passed all there tests right away, but I swear I could have used some more speech therapy. Most people cant believe I had a stroke, but my mind tells me different. I guess I should count my lucky stars that I am still here. But hey, I am still relatively young and wont give up. I don't think I have touched trains since may. The motivation has been gone. Probably because of working and being so dang tired all the time. I swear, I don't think I have ever had this many naps in my life! But with winter coming, and work slowing up, I am finding some time and motivation. I just recently cleaned all my filthy, filthy track. Was it ever dirty! That took me some time and I still have sidings and such to clean. I did get the woodland scenic wheel cleaner for my locos and am pretty impressed with it. I also got my back boards put up and behind layout. The layout looks much better. Not sure if I am going to paint it or use a backdrop on it. I also did some scenic work and that is rather slow going. But looks pretty good. I have decided I am going to forgo using so many trestle bridges. In some spots I am going to use something different. Not sure what yet. They are curved tracks and will need some special consideration. Double curved at that. I will get some pictures up when I remember to get some photos up. ( another thing, my memory sucks! ) So anyway, I am finding some motivation, lets hope it keeps up.
I said I would send some pics when I get a minute. I decided that I am going to simulate tunnels. I will make my mountain tall but open at the top. This way I can get into to from either way. I am yet to figure out my river. Ain't got that far yet. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
This is where I will build my tunnel. It will be about 6 ft long. Not sure yet how I will get it figured yet. But I have some ideas... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
