Hi, All Here are some photos of my scratch built pigeon coop. It measures 15mm (L)x6mm(W)x11mm(H). It is lit with a nano LED by WS. It is the first project using coffee filter screen I have made. The "pigeons" are corbels from an RSlaser kit. All the parts are from the scrap box.
When I was a kid I raised pigeons for a hobby. That model of yours looks an awful lot like my pigeon coop of many years ago only a lot smaller. Can't quite make out whether those are racing pigeons or tumblers
Wow! that is small! But I can see the material as the screens use to kept the birds caged! Cool Project!
What a great hobby. My grandfather, from Sicily, raised them on his rooftop as well as veggies and flowers. He passed away in 1962 but I've always kept the memory of him and them. They would flock around him like he was a statue. I don't think there are any active hobbyists in Boston. I know in NYC there are still some pigeon fanciers. A few years ago one got blown into my building during a storm. It was a beautiful white racer. I called in the band # and got a reply thanking me. The owner lived in RI, almost 50 miles from where I found it. Jim
Happy New Year, Walt. Thanks. I think you may like the coffee filter screen material. Even at this small it still looks like real screen. Jim
Very nice, Jim. But where are the pigeons? ( I can't tell from the picture if they're in there..) You could ask Trafofuchs if she is willing to make you some. She already did hogs, geese, crows and even chicken with chicks in Z! http://www.trafofuchs.de/index_en.htm >> country >> animals More in general, for US figures, check out these: http://www.trafofuchs.de/index_en.htm >> specials >> USA Matt
Hi, Matt They are in there. The photos are pretty lousy though. It was shot with a cellphone that doesn't have good close-up abilities. They are the corbels from an RSLaser kit. I was thinking of adding paper "wings" to one or two of them for emphasis. Thanks for this link. I've just started ordering things from Reynauld's. I was unaware of most of the European companies. Z scale keeps getting better all the time. Best, Jim
Thanks, Chops. I had a friend we called Chopper (RIP) thanks for the instant recall. Nice to think of him. Growing up it was not unusual to see banded pigeons among some of the flocks. I haven't seen a live banded one in years. Most of the pigeons around here were decimated by the bird flu a couple of years back. They are starting to rebound. We have a growing flock that hang out on a nearby telephone pole. They are much wearier now. We have lots of red-tailed hawks. It is not unusual to see them in the heart of the city. Take care. Jim
