First post here. I have finally managed to get the time, the room, and the $ for a layout. I have played around in the past but since I just hit 60 and know we're staying in our current house, it's time to move forward. I have a 12x13 spare bedroom. I will using WS bench work kits since I $uck as a carpenter. I plan an HO layout around the room with a center leg (think E). I haven't decided if I'll connect the bottom of the E or just make it a dogbone type layout. I plan on trying various different ways to do the same thing to see what works best for me. This will be a one man layout, geared more towards switching. I do have 3 grandsons, however 1 is 17 and discovered girls, and one is 1 month old, leave the 12 year old to maybe help Pepaw if he wants. My plan is plywood covered in foam, I'm wondering if 3/8 is enough or do I need 1/2". I played around with N scale on a hollow core door with 1" of pink foam on top. I see where a lot of folks use 2" of foam. I'm thinking 2" because with a shift to HO I'd like to make I can create some deeper crevices. The bench work is 35.5" from the floor and most of my working and operating will be on a stool, since I have a back problem, so I'm thinking 38" will be about right. Thanks and I'm sure I'll be back. :tb-biggrin: Bruce
