You come home from a show, op session, etc and find 2 9v batteries for your radio throttle in your pants pockets. Dang if you can't remember if they are the replacements you brought or did I replace the batteries???... LOL

You put a decoder in an engine when the decoder is worth more than the engine.

You compulsively install sound decoders into all 100 locomotives of your fleet. $$$$ Ouch. Talk about a whap to the wallet!

[Nervous laughter, while looking about to see if I am being followed.]

Just bought a DZ143 today to try in one of my LL SW1200 switchers... which I once ebayed for, oh, a little less than what I just spent on the decoder.

    Hum-de-dum. [whistles]

You install sound decoders in all your son's Thomas HO engines AND spend time downloading the real Thomas character's whistles onto each of their chips!

I use the ESU Loksound decoders as the dcc chip isn't very large and they have lots of options for speakers and enclosures. The only one I have not been able to successfully get a sound chip in is Percy... he has a decoder, but I've not found a speaker and a place to put it that will work... yet.

The loksound chips also allow you to use their programmer software and device to download sound files and / or create your own and download them on the chip. This is how I get the proper sounding whistles for Thomas and co.

I've had over 20 decoders available to hardwire into my LL SWs for the past 4 years...but I've been buying factory installed decoder equipped GPs, SDs, (and more recently) NW-2s and MP-15 with drop in decoders instead.
Soooo...Doc, What's the diagnosis?? I'm spending a chunk of change on DCC locos, but I'm avoiding DCC decoder installations... Oh, yeah,....I can set speed tables without using the manual. Hmmm... I suppose it's terminal.

(SteamDonkey...Please start a thread and post lots of pics as you go. Who's method will you be using... Joe Ellis', Andre K's, or Stephano C's?)

You spend 10 hours wiring and re-wiring trying to fit a decoder into this little guy (n scale):

Suprisingly you finally get it to fit and therfore...

After the 100 sound decoded loco's, Locos worth less than the decoder itself and topping it off with a few Sound enabled Thomas memorabilia...

Your satisfied with the most realistic running and operation of trains on your layout whether its 3x5 or 50x50+!!

;) I just purchased $65 worth of sound decoder and speakers to put in an engine I got on sale for $50. (See Sound in Budd RDC unit thread)

My biggest indicator of being a DCC "nut" is the fact that I have slowly stopped running any engines that are not decoder equipped. I am starting to even favor the sound equipped DCC engines over the non-sound DCC engines.

    Its financial insanity.

When you don't run any trains while you wait for 10 months for a decoder to be installed because you shake too much to do it yourself.
