    Anyone use the stuff...?

    What for...?

    How do you like it...?

I'm not sure if I need it on my layout to "spruce up" the mountains from mostly rolling to more rocky... anyone with 2cents can finish this sentence: "if I had your layout...I'd do.... "

here's an overview, more pics at any of the links below...

I've used the stuff for filling in the gaps between layers of blue foam to avoid the "layer cake" look. Spackle is way cheaper. So is drywall compound or wood putty which is what I think the WS stuff is.

All sand easily and give you a rough enough texture to work with. If you want to go rocky, use plaster and rock molds. The mountains you have look great already and look good to go, the stuff above would be just for blending or patching.

    Mike,

Your layout is looking nice. As you are in the beginning stages of scenery, it's hard to tell what I would do differently. I think you will find that while you will always get some good advice from forums like this, you will also learn a lot by trying not to achieve perfection the first time around. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake.

My layout is far from perfect. There are a number of things that I know could have been done better. But as a result I've learned the better way to do things. Don't be afraid to try something new, and don't be too disappointed if it doesn’t turn out quite as well as you had hoped. It's all a part of gaining experience.

As far as WS goes, I don't have any experience with the product you asked about. In general, I feel that most WS products are repackaged material that can be purchased elsewhere for cheaper. I’m sure WS makes a good product, but in my experience, it’s usually way too pricey.

I have used the stuff, and I like it a lot. Fills gaps and evens surfaces well, doesn't warp or crack, and also sands easy. The biggest thing is it's extremely lightweight. I don't know how light the spackle (cracking problem?) and other commercial products are, but if they can do the same thing cheaper, then they are the way to go.

I have used WS Foam, works great for filling, smoothing. i found it can be used for shaping small rocks. really light, easy to shape. blends with the foam pretty well.

I have used the WS foam for filling gaps in the scenery and to smooth out certain areas for final scenicking.
