As a newcomer to the hobby- I know very little about it actually. I had a friend that got me interested in the hobby-he moved but I'm hooked.I'm really interested in the scenery part-coal mining-docks, etc. I was wanting a mountain mining layout in HO scale- in your opinion would the Rock Junction-in 4x8 work?
Do you know where a link to this track plan is? I'm afraid that I (and perhaps others) are not familiar with it, and it would be necessary to help you further... Thanks!
Hi Kycat09, welcome to the TrainBoard, we're happy you've come aboard. I can't help you directly, but have you tried contacting someone at World's Greatest Hobby through their website? http://www.greatesthobby.com/ They may have an archive of track plans available for download.......? Good Luck.
Is this the one? http://www.greatesthobby.com/wgh/objects/pdf/wgh_section6.pdf I think that will be a great place to start. I myself would modify the track plan slightly because I don't like the "short cut" siding approach.
Didn't I once see this plan in MR under a different name? I don't mind the siding around the end - it's not a shortcut, just a passing siding. Admittedly, the track spacing is large, but with sectional track, that's hard to fix. Plan's a little simple for my tastes; one passing/runaround track and one industry.
That's the one. like I said before- the scenery concerns me the most. Would it be possible to have a mountain- maybe with a tunnel & still have room for other scenes-possible coal facility, small town, ect? Thanks again.
I don't see any problem fitting a mountain and another scene on there. To make it even easier, you could put a backdrop down the middle at an angle and then only model a portion of the mountain. I also don't like that location for a passing siding though it is classic. I'd probably pull it out and just have another siding that ran into town instead. Alternativly, if you have the space, you might build it as is and then later add a yard or additional industry as an extension. If you did that, you could keep the inner loop for running a train continuously while you switched in the extension.
