What are good sources for wood? I am starting into this scratch build phenomenon, and need to find a good, reliable, cheap source. THanks
Your hobby shop (if there is one near you) would be the best source of Kappler and Northeastern Scale lumber. It can be mail ordered, but most mail order shops hate to handle it as it is cheap and hard to package. The Walthers catalogs have scale lumber in them so you can see what is available. I now tend to use brass or styrene except for lumber larger than scale 12 x 12 these days, where I still use wood.
Model ship and airplane shops carry a pretty good supply of balsa and bass wood in sheets and blocks.
Benny, go to EBay RIGHT NOW and search by number for #1630 003 928 and click on his other auction items. He has a source of wood that is scale. He is in Canada I think. That particular number si for 200 pieces of wood for 2.00 per bundle, and he has 1k for 10.00. In HO the wood is 8"x8"x20 feet, and in N scale it would be 15"x15" etc. Pretty reasonable. Email him and tell him what you want, and also look at other deals he already has going on EBay, it is ideal for your trestle!
Watash, I tried to pull up the E-Bay seller # but Ebay says its no longer a listed number. Do you have any other information that we could use? Thanks, Jim

Try your local craft store. I picked up a good-sized bag of thinly liced wood for building doll houses for $3.99. I used a paper cutter to slice it up to the appropriate width for building a house. It makes it a bit "rustic" and uneven, but that makes it look all the better for an older building. Mark.
