Thought I would share some W&LE pictures withyou..These was taken here in Bucyrus(Oh) on CFE track. This train goes to Lima one day and returns the next.
Nice pictures!! :teeth: Gotta love those high nose GP35s on ALCo trade-in trucks (AAR "B" type)...Something about them just says that they're all business...
Quite a variety for any railfan. And a real Rio Grande unit. Just curious, the top picture- What line is being crossed at that diamond? Boxcab E50
Rio Grande Unit Argh! To live to see the day when a Rio Grande fan has to cross the continent to see surviving Grande power. Thanks for the pictures. :shade: I never knew the WLE had gotten any Grande engines, only that some were former D&RGW employees and they adopted the speed lettering style.
That will be Norfolk Southerns Sandusky line on the Sandusky District.. The WE units is on the former CR/PRR Ft.Wayne line.
I am told that was a "experimental" paint scheme that was replace with the Rio Grande style scheme like the 103.
A common error on commercial Rio Grande models is to make the yellow or orange too dark. 103 is like that: it looks like the ex-Conrail engines that erroneously received deep orange. I actually think the RG scheme looks better with the dark orange, but I don't like the lettering. "Rio Grande" lettering, small or large, looks balanced and proportionate. This doesn't. The road name is too long for such a lettering style, if you get what I'm saying. The speed lettering was used in lieu of a herald, and that works better with a short name. There are too many "tails" (seven!) for my liking. I think it's the streaking dot on the "i" that made me realize they'd gone overboard.
