Jensie : Welcome to Trainboard. I think you should contact Trainboard member Jon Grant in the UK. He did winter snow scenes on his HO layout. Stay cool and run steam....
The 1999 Layout Planner from Model Railroader had a decent article on winter scenery. I too am planning a portion of my layout to be in the constant deep freeze. Welcome to Trainboard
Jensie: Here is one of Jon Grant's photo's of his winter scene on his layout: He uses household emulsion to create the effects. Stay cool and run steam.....
in the December, 2000 issue of MODEL RAILROADER there was an article telling how they "winterized" one of their project railroads. About all I remember is, for a frozen pond they used a peice of white styrene and coated it with a few layers of Acrylic Gloss Medium. And, ther was an exellent "how to" article in MODEL RAILROADER back in 1998 by a guy named Rand Hood showing how he built winter scenery-even little things like sheets of ice beside the rails, and fish trapped beneath the ice in a frozen pond.
YES YES that was the artocle I was thinking of.....I still have that issue. I was reading it a few weeks ago. the 2000 one
Matt: Look at the trees in Jon Grant's winter scene: They are very well done. Stay cool and run steam.....
Matt: Send an e-mail to Jon. He used houselhold emulsion to create the snow scene. That's white latex paint here in the good old USA. Stay cool and run steam......
