This weekend is the annual Holiday Train Show in Ft. Worth, put on by the North Texas Council of Railroad Clubs. Admission is 6 bucks, kids are free. Place is the Amon G. Carter Exhibit Center, Will Rogers Memorial Center. Click here for more info.

I'll be there Saturday with the Red River club from Sherman, and I hope to see as many Trainboarders from D-FW as can show up. I'll be wearing either my orange Farmrail hat or my Oklahoma State cap (with a Frisco coonskin pin on the side). I'll be helping out at the door, taking money.

Hope to see as many of you there as live in the area.
    :D

I'll be there Sunday running our club modules. Saturday I'll be at our club (North Texas N-Trak in Irving) running our layout for open house. So I guess we will miss the chance to meet this show but I'm sure we will sometime. This should be a really great show...I can't wait.

I plan to be there on Saturday. I will look around for other Trainboarders. I also plan to hit a few of the layouts on tour. I can't wait. [IMG] [IMG]

While I missed the show because I moved to Ft. Worth after it was over I would like to find modelers in the area. I moved from Jackson, Ms and there aren't that many modelers there. I've had to kind of lone wolf it for a while. The trains are still packed up and will probably remain so for a while due to space constrains in the new apertment. I'll have to live vicariously until I can get the management to approve space for the workbence. I'd love to see some of the work of other modelers around and find all the local hot spots (for catching the prototypes and the models).

Welcome to Texas John. There is a lot of train activity around the Metroplex. Keep your eyes and ears open and stay-tuned to this board. There are a lot of local modelers who frequent Trainboard. There is another train show coming up in January. It will be in Plano. This is the last of the three big train shows around here. By the way, what's your scale??

HO's the scale, Southeastern railroads are the game, though anything big, ugly and on rails will hold my attention. Forget Acela, I'd rather see a lashup of high hood tuxedos or a half mile drag of black gold comin down out of the hills. Now that's a beautiful sight. I'm mostly modeling Seaboard Air Line right now. No purple and silver for me ;) .

I do have several project on the workbench including a Southern SD-45 and a GP-18 that will hopfully end up in TAG colors. They are all packed up and hopefully made the move without to much damage. I'll have to stay in the armchair for a while though. I'm still looking for a job and we've got an eleven month old so train time is at a minimum. If it weren't for trainboard I'd get almost no train related conversation.

I've already been to a couple of the hobby shops in town. I was at Hobby Maker in Bedford yesterday and I checked out Hobby World in south Ft. Worth today. I'll keep everyone posted as to when I can get a work bench and maybe even a test track or two up. The Orange Blossum Special has rolled into the Lone Star State.

When you are ready for a short trip across the Metroplex, be sure to check out Discount Model Trains in Addison. Once you do, you will make sure you visit it once a month if not more often. Everything they sell (and they stock a lot in all scales) is discounted at least 20%.

    Check it out!

Welcome JPB. Friscobob, I went to that show, but didn't catch this thread until today. Sorry I missed the opportunity to meet you. JPB, repeating what Mike said in an earlier post, there will be another show in Plano in January. It's put on by the same folks as the Ft. Worth show and features some of the same layouts as well as others. There wasn't as many home layouts this year with the Ft. Worth show as they have had in the past, I haven't seen the line-up for Plano yet...hope it's better. There's a lot of great layouts in the DFW Metroplex. There is a great club layout in Ft. Worth off Anglin and IH-20, sorry I can't remember their name. As far as hobby shops, if you're ever up north in Denton, try Silver Spike Hobbies on Elm St. If you're into railfanning, Ft. Worth is a good place, but watch out around the UP these days.

I suppose I need to tell you what I got. Wasn't much- all rolling stock, four woodchip hoppers from E&C Carshops, three pulpwood flats from Athearn, and two 54-foot GSC flats from Walthers (which I plan on converting to Frisco "woodracks", or pulpwood flatcars in Frisco lingo).

I was focusing on stuff related to the papermaking industry, and unfortunately wasn't able to find any good tank cars for hauling kaolin- perhaps at Plano. I'm also looking for autoracks for my Frisco mainline freights, so I'll keep an eye out for bargains.

SPeaking of Plano, go here for details.

I noticed on the GATS ad in MR that there will be a show in Arlington in January. I assume that is the Arlington between Dallas and Ft. Worth. Is anyone planning to go to that show? Also, does anybody do anything with modular layouts in the area. With my space (and financial) limitations I think that is the route I'll have to take.

Thanks for the security reminder about railfanning. There was a story on NPR a few weeks ago about some guys who spent several hours being questioned by the FBI after a UP engineer saw them and called it in. No body got in trouble, but it did take several hours for everything to get worked out.
