This is a slideshow presentation of the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. You will need Power Point or Power Point Viewer to see it. Enjoy, Hank
I don't know its origin, I received as an e-mail attachment. BTW, for those who do not have PowerPoint Viewer, it's a free download from.... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...27-43AB-4F24-90B7-A94784AF71A4&displaylang=en
Darren, I found a possible source for the WP&Y .pps file through Google. Though "bigpinekey" may not be the original source either. www.bigpinekey.com/Video_Sound/Alaska_Railway_Routes.pps I received the file as attachments to two separate e-mails. I have no idea where those senders may have gotten it, especially since they each live in different parts of the US, and neither knows the other.
The reason behind my question is my brother also got this via email this week and he is NOT a RR fan but had forwarded it to me on Tuesday. Since PowerPoint presentations can contain a virus my IT Red Light jumpped on with concern knowing the kind of stuff that has been found in recent years. I did not find anything in my testing on the one in your post or in the copy my brother was sent. My brother could only tell me he was forwarded a message that contained this as an attachment and the history was that it had been forwarded at least three times already so it was unclear where the email started and from whom. :boy::boy::boy::boy: PowerPoint the Latest Target of Virus Writers Microsoft Powerpoint virus BBC NEWS | Technology | Poisoned PowerPoint attacks users
I appreciate the caution, though this attachment was scanned by my system as it was received. Thanks for the referrals about PowerPoint virii, Since retiring, I haven't kept as current on cyber threats as I had, so I wasn't aware that ppt/pps had become another preferred vehicle for "cyber joyriders".
I have watched this show several times now. It certainly grows on a person. The music chosen is great! However, the author got that song title wrong. It's actually: "Life's Railway To Heaven". Also, I kept seeing that image on front of the diesel. It sure looks like a Thunderbird. Not an eagle or raven. If so, might just be of the Taalkweidi Clan. (Tlingit Nation.) The Skagway area is/was within their known places of dwelling. Interesting! Boxcab E50
Ken, the bald eagle population is extremely large in that area all the way down through Ketichikan. I imagine that at least part of the eagle is represented in the totem. The head may well be that of a seal, sea lion, or otter, all are prevelant in the area, though the otter less so. The tail end appears to be flippers which would agree with the seal-like head. Thanks for high-lighting the totem. I didn't have a chance to study it when we were there in 2000. It's fascinating.
Thunderbird is what it's supposed to be, and no two were painted the same. Some looked left, some right.
Had no opportunity during the week, for my wife to see this video. She just watched it. And immediately spotted the Thunderbird. So she wants to know as well. Boxcab E50
I learned of the variation from 94 General Electric One variation cna be seen on 93 General Electric - it actually says "Thunderbird."
Thanks for the link to the WP&YR fan site, I didn't know about that. Interesting to note that the Thunderbird is not that common, at least from the photos. I only saw it on five of the GE's.
Just for fun, I've sent an e-mail to the RR. Hoping someone there can connect me to a bit of history, on origins of WP&Y using the Thunderbird. Boxcab E50
Heard back from the WP&Y. They're actually working on some history to be posted later this month. Including background on their Thunderbird logos. So, I guess we'll be watching their web site for more... Boxcab E50
