Which decoder in a LL Proto 2000 2-8-8-2?

    I'm thinking of buying a digitrax set, plus decoders. For my Kato locomotives it's clear to me which decoders I need, but I have no idea what to put in my LL Proto 2-8-8-2.

    Anyone of you can help me out?

    Thanks!

    Thank you, River Eagle!

    I realise now that I meant the N-scale version, forgot to mention that...

    I figure you would need DZ123, DZ143 or DN163 hard-wired decoders, or the equivalent in Lenz, NCE, TCS, et al.
    I don't know if the loco was fitted with a NMRA plug or (I suspect) not.

    I would use a Digitrax DZ143 or a Lenz gold mini decoder for the LL 2-8-8-2.

    I've used both decoders in the 2-8-8-2's that I have.

    Stay cool and run steam....:cool::cool:

    A digitrax DZ123 will work fine. It does not have a plug in the loco so you will need to hard wire. Carfull with the light board. Look on line for direction for this install. If you are not going to add any other lights or functions to the loco you do not need a DZ143 or any other 4 function Decoder. The smaller the decoder the easier the install. So look for a DZ123, Lenz Mini or 0511, NCE Z14, Or a TCS M1. ,

    I like the TCS decoders. Either an M1 or M3 will work fine
