I am building a Woodland Scenics, Scenic Ridge kit and using Kato Unitrack. Which DCC system do you recommend? My Budget is $250 (all my locos are DCC already) My requirements are pretty minimal... control of 4-6 locos max, 5 or 6 turnouts, etc. I was going to go with Atlas and their turnout control which in total with the duo pack would only be $150. The Lenz 90 is in that range but you have to pay $220 for the system, plus $30 for the power supply plus $40 for the turnout control and $20 for a power supply for it... I would like something I can eventually hook to my computer. Any options between those 2? ash =o)
ashVid: I use the Lenz 100 system for the JJJ&E which also uses Kato Unitrack. I woould suggest that you buy the Lenz 90 system. The Atlas system made by Lenz is a very basic starter DCC system that you'll soon outgrow. Go for the Lenz 90 system. The cost factor difference between the two systems spread out over time is negligible. Have fun... Stay cool and run steam..... [ 14. January 2005, 19:37: Message edited by: Powersteamguy1790 ]
I use the Lenz 100 also. If it's in or close to your budget, the Lenz 90 will grow with you. Loco1999
Another option is the Digitrax Zephyr system. You can find it on the internet for around $150 and it is expandable.
Found the Lenz 100 for $250 shipped so I went with that... I am sure I will have questions when I get it next week! ash =o)
Enjoy your DCC. I held in my hands for the first time a Lenz 90 just this past Saturday. I own Digitrax, but I was curious as to the Lenz system. The person who sells Lenz and Digitrax was at the same person's layout. He told me there has been recent crumblings on the Lenz forums about the 90. It has too few "buttons" for the job of programming. This is the same kind of complaints that originated with the Digitrax DT100 throttle that brought about Digitrax's reputation for poor user interphase with the system. I suspect you will be happier with the L100.
