I am putting my layout on benchwork built from 1x4s with a 1/4inch top (I am building layout N7 from the Atlas book, I used their benchwork plan as well). Where do most of you put the electrics? I see some as sepearate tables, but if it was a separate table how would you go about disconnecting it without un-soldering everything?

BTW, I will be using 7 switches for turnouts (Atlas) 2 Atlas Selectors, and 1 MRC 220 transformer.

You have a number of options. firstly when dealing with electricity safety should be your first priority.
I definately would not be placing your transformer on a stool you nered to place it underr the layout and out of reach of tiny hands.
It is best to mount all wiring under the layout in neat looms.
You can have a seperate cabinet to house your transformer and switches for points etc.
I have done similar with my layout and wired permanently to it. If you like you could wire thruogh electrical plugs that can be disconnected.

Here is a picture of my control panel which also houses all the transformers.

This picture belows shows the wirning terminals, below this area are the transformers.

Nice. Did you build that cabinet yourself? Thanks for the reply

Would a "table" type platform be suitable? I was thinking of a platform like the one I built for my layout, only smaller. It would be a box frame "table", probably 12inches x 24inches, 35 inches high.

I actually had a friend build the cabinet for me but any type of cabinet would be ok. You may also want to check some of the model railroad magazine as they always have articles on building control panels.

No Control Panel articles yet in MR at least. Do you know of any books? Thanks again
Oh, and when I said Transformer I meant a standard DC cab control with Momentum and brake MRC 220
