I have recently gotten into N scale, and am trying to find if any shops in the US have this model number 73500: http://www.katousa.com/html/br86.htm [ 08 October 2001: Message edited by: sd9043mac ]</p>
That does look incredibly close to a Fleischmann, although you did leave a Kato signature. If you are looking for a variety of these type, look them up. As far as I have experience, the HO models are smooth running and very powerful. I don't know about the cost, I think it is a bit higher unless you look around on EBay. There is usually a cheap one floating around there, especially if you do a "Fleischmann N" search from the main page Only problem is that many are located in foreign countries. On many, there is no English, although I am sure you could email the sellers, and get a decent reply. That, or learn a new language! Such is the story of trying to save fifty percent! It is/was a Kato N scale model, I was just looking for that particlar model, it looked awesome and probably runs great being a Kato steamer (their C57 runs as nicely as a diesel). rjs01 Thanks, I will try calling Esthers.
Hello SD9043MAC, a warm welcome to Trainboard, and especially to the N Scale forum When I think of German locomotives, I immediately think of Fleischmann or Roco, and did not know that Kato made any. Should be a good runner Good luck on your search.
Thanks, have been reading the board for a week or so. How is Fleischmann and Arnold for running quality? I searched the net with as many different phrases etc and couldn't find any . Esthers appears to be out, as they aren't listed on their site. I will call them though. It appears to be the only German loco listed on Kato's site. I am trying to stick to the Modern UP, but sometimes a loco catches my eye. I tinkered with N 2-3 years ago, built an atlas layout on a Ceiling tile. Than built an Atlas N5 figure 8 layout. Currently working on layout N7, the rails on the Atlas track and switches aren't cut "straight" so the layout doesn't go together as well as I would like. Since you are obviously experienced here is a question I hope you can answer. What type of platform do you put your "controls" on for the layout? Mine would consist of 3 atlas "controllers", switch machine controls (7or 8), and 2 MRC 220 transformers (1 controller right now, but will eventually get #2) I might add some electric items to the layout, like lights and signals, so I would add some more switches over time).
We sold our last Kato BR86 a few months ago but we can still get you the Fleischmann version. While it's a little more money than the Kato model the Fleischmann model runs a little better than the Kato and is continuously available. No limited runs. Take a look at our website at http://www.nscaledivision.com we are authorized dealers for both Fleischmann and Kato. [ 08 October 2001: Message edited by: swissrhb ]</p>
Since you sell the Minitrix, and Fleischmann, models I have a question. Can the 2-10-2 s make it around a 9 3/4 inch turn? I would run the engine by itself, or with American cars (more of a neat novelty item)

I actually am involved in several ventures and have so little time to actually run trains these days. Give one of my sales guys a call, I'm sure they could help you. See the website for numbers and times. Thanks!
Last time I saw one was at the Tex-N-Rails table about a month back. You may want to contact them and see if they still have it in stock. I have one that is over ten years old and it now needs a new idler-gear to get it back to reliable running, other than that it has been a real workhorse on my mountain branch. Also it is built like their other steam, phosfor bronze bearings on all axles and the like (even the pony-truckes pick-up power) Happy Hunting.
squirrelkinns: I assume you are talking about a Fleischmann or Trix since you say it is over 10 years old. Reynaulds has been great at answering the questions I have asked them by E mail, they have a full digital service and repair center according to their web page. (they sell european models) www.reynaulds.com
