I was wondering if anybody would like to take a guess at when Atlas might be following their HO release of the Dash-8's in N Scale? I work 6 days a week at 12 hours a day for BNSF so if they said I missed it? I want N Scale manufacturers to release all kinds of different things, but lately I just can't keep up with it. Thanks everybody and God Bless all!

I don't know...sure would be great if they did! Seems a Dash-8(B series) would be a natural step after the Dash-7. Put me down for a couple of warbonnets :D

Hey dave, you still working at the "Bank? I haven't heard of anything yet except the geep of the week, but I do suffer from the same problem as you with work schedule, or lack of schedule. Anyway since I have just repowered a Bachmann 8-40CW with a KATO C-30-7 drive they will probablly be announced next week.

just a quick question about the B40-8's. If atlas ever does these in N scale, are they close to a B39-8? I need sevral LMX B39's for my BN roster.

Yeah, Kevin! I would also like some LMX B39-8's too. I am sure they look just the same as the B40-8. The early B39's had a rounded cab, I think.

Anyway, bring 'em on! In blue and yellow warbonnet and LMX [IMG]

Certainly the 4 axle dash 8 is a possibbility, I thought there was an unwritten agreement between the manufactures about releasing the same type as one another.
If this is correct we may not see the 6 axle variant, it would certainly be a shame, I believe it would fill a gap. They may go straight to the GE AC series.

I though like most of you would love to add some LMX units and a couple of warbonnets to my Roster. ;)

B40-8 and B39-8 are identical externally. It would be stupid for Atlas or Lifelike to have a go at any GE AC power when Kato already has the mechanism and 90% of the shell for a C44AC.

I dont think it would be stupid for LL or atlas to do a 6 axel AC GE locomotive, I know it would sell. Sure it would be cheaper for Kato or Bachman to do one but I doubt that would make it anyless cheaper for the consumer.

I find your statement a little presumptuous.

Competition between manufacturers is business. If another company can capatilise on an opening they should exploit that weakness or perceived gap in the market.

I agree with you in that Kato should have released the AC series, it was a progression from the C44-9. As you are well aware, there are some significant differences between the two locomotives, but yes the mech is there. They may have opted for the SD90 and may not worry about the AC series.

The AC series could include more road names than the SD90. AC are and were used by CSX, CP, SP and UP. I am not sure if KCS is now running ACs or C44-9s, I am sure someone will enlighten me.

But yes, I hope Kato release the AC series, but then again I just hope someone does.

KCS has and CNW had C44ACs.

The reason why Atlas or LL shouldn't do a C44AC is because Kato probably has it in product development and then we would have 2 quality models of the same loco such as Kato PA and LL PA. We don't need 2 companies wasting time making the same model when there are so many others out there that haven't been made in N scale yet.

One rule manufactures use when they make a model is they usally make sure they can use that frame to make other models so Kato will probably make a C44AC in the next 2 years because they can use the C44-9W frame.

BNSF has 3 AC4400CW's roaming their system.

Also, I tend to think that what a manufacturer does in one scale, they will in another. The reason I say this is that they have all the info for all the dimensions, paint schemes, etc, so why bother just waisting that info on just one scale?

A perfect example would be the N scale and O scale SD35's by Atlas.

I have a feeling we will see Tunnel Motors or GP60's real soon.

They're pretty close, although there are a few minor differences here and there, if you're into that type of thing. SP's B39-8E's, SP 8000-8039, are similar to Cotton Belt's B40-8's, except for the rear sandfill location; on the SP units, the fill is located on top of the carbody end, while the SSW units had it located in a recess under the rear headlight. Also, the B39-8's had thin anticlimbers on front, while the B40-8's had thick anticlimbers with an angled support underneath. Naturally, there are exceptions; Cotton Belt's first order, SSW 8040-8074, had thin anticlimbers. And the B39-8 testbed units, ATSF 7400-7402, were totally different creatures altogether...they had rounded cab roofs, and different door and radiator intake arrangements. And you thought EMD was bad for making every model different! ;)
