Dave, I have to tell you the spine cars are very impressive, I am assembling my kits now and they look great ------------------ Regards Paul Cassar-Moderator & Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
I have two of Alan's spinecars and am quite pleased with them except I've discovered that the left tire deck on both c-units are .0000005 shorter than the right tire deck.Ya know some guys can't get anything right. ------------------ Catt!#118 - Moderator and A freelancer to the end [This message has been edited by Catt (edited 15 November 2000).]

Hey tehachapifan, whats up, I think I talked to you on "Trainorders" before. Are you the guy that had the 6 by 9 HO layout before? If I remember right, I might of seen photos of your SP units before.
Yep, that's me! Those are my SP model photos you've seen and I do have a 6x9' N-scale layout that started-out HO and was converted. I have also built the benchwork for a 6x7' layout extension Russ
Russ welcome to trainboard, doy ou have a website that we can see your layout and pics? Or maybe you could post some pics here? ------------------ Regards Paul Cassar-Moderator & Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
Thanks for the welcome Paul Sorry, I don't have any layout pics at all. My photos mentioned above are of some HO locos only, and the're all taken outdoors on small dioramas. I don't have any lighting equipment for any quality indoor shots so I've never phtographed my layout--which isn't really photo-ready anyway as I don't have any areas that are totally "finished". I would post some of the HO photos here if I knew how Russ
OK, I think I want to do one in KCS, but i need some pics, anyone have any or know of a good site? Cant you do there in the white scheme? Kevin

quote:
Originally posted by Maxwell Plant: No front porch rebuilding is required Alan. The walkways and porches are the same casting regardless of version. Yes, you could add a new nose but why? Kato is going to do more versions of this locomotive family. Just wait...

Ok, now that the walkway is not a problem, I have two noses leftover from SD40's. Apart from the filling of the ratchet and fitting of a brakewheel, are there any other differences between the 'standard' nose of a SD40 and a phase 2 SD40-2 that would stop converting a snoot to a standard -2 using the SD40 nose? The 'standard' nose length I believe to be the same - 81". Also, what prices are they going for currently? I'd be wanting a pair of undecs. Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Gary.

Gary, I saw a picture of that Soo Line B unit and I really like it! I would like to see some pictures when you get underway. Also, I was thinking about getting another SF snoot and taking the nose down to proper length (for the non snoot that is). Though this would be the same shell I would put all the detail parts on for the N Scale Railraoding article........hhhhmmmmm, guess I'll have to get started right away! ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts. Depending on what road you model, there are still quite a few SD 40-2's around here in Victoria, although some roads such as British Columbia Railway, Santa Fe and Norfolk Southern went (particularly BCR) very quickly. Most N Scale modelers don't seem to care about the nose length and those that do, seem quite content to modify the unit as they seem fit, given that in most cases, a lot of details must be applyed in order to bring the unit up to a prototypical standard. One member of the local NTrak and oNeTrak clubs who used to model CP Rail, was introduced to the local British Columbia Railway Group (Seduced by the dark side) and is in the process of purging his entire fleet of anything which did not come within sniffing distance of BCR trackage, and is intent on modeling BCR's entire fleet of SD 40-2's (I beleve he has 7 already). He will add every detail part available to his units, including opreating nose and ditch lights, but could care less about the nose length and that seems to be the prevailling attitude among the N croud in our area. Happy Modeling. Cheers, Terry

I really like BCRail and if there were any other models available to readily model them, I would be hard pressed not to. I liked the BCR snoots and probably would have got one if it was in the red/white/blue scheme. The biggest draw for me would be an ALCo unit (C/M-420) suitable for a CRS20 rebuild with matching slug and M-420B. I gotta have a set of those! Oh, and a Draper Taper Dash-8/9. This might be of interest to the BCRail enthusiats - http://ftp.funet.fi/index/railways/Canada/British_Columbia_Railway/index.html Cheers, Gary. ------------------ Gary A.
