OK I was out driving a School Bus today, on my way to pick up the bus I hear the Rocket Train is in town, somehting about a caboose being needed tonight so don't bury it and the Malad Local it getting ready to go to NUCOR. Well after my run I go do some Railfanning, I see this strange flat car setup in the yard and the Malad Local egtting ready to take it to NUCOR, so I'm wonder what is hauled in this thing????

    I was gonna guess

I was gonna guess one of those MOW welded rail cars, but I did a quick looksee and found a sibling http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rspicture.aspx?id=42879

It's made to carry long stuff I guess.

There was actually an interesting article in British Railway Modelling a few months ago about handling oversize loads. They rigged up something similar for some enormous boiler. Had to take a circuitous route where there would be enough clearance on curves, clear the lines, speed limited to a crawl.

Cool, Well I guess what ever those long small tubes/rods are must be coming from NECOR in Plymonth Utah as the empty car was headed that way this afternoon.

The wife had me unloading some food out of the car this morning, so this UP train goes by, its not a long train and I only see on loco on the point, well about 6 cars deep I see another one of these flat cars, empty, and about six more cars and theres a nother loco pushing on the rear. Ofcourse I could not get a photo of it beofre it was too far away and I didn't have time to chase it. But the train was heaed north bound to Ogden, so I'm guess will see this other flat car setup in Brigham City in the next day or so, as trains running from Pocy to Ogden don't do any switching along the line, the Wip local picks cars up from Ogden and bring them to BC. anyway I'll be watching for a loaded car just to se what they are hauling, I hope to get some close up pics.

I would say now seeing the photos rail, pipe, or some other building supply. They do make a nice specialty carrying device eh?

I don't know what they carry either, but I see them a lot across the street from the BNSF yard in Auburn, WA.

It does not look like anything I have ever seen used for transporting welded rail. I would guess some sort of special length pipe.

Maybe for windmill or wind turbine blades. Or maybe it is already loaded with salvaged sections of abandoned oil wells to be cut up for use as post holes. ;)

This is a really cool looking car. Would be neat to see pics of loaded ones.

I doubt it is for windmill blades. It is a little short for that. Of course that is just my idea. I may be wrong as I have been many times before. :D :D :D

I think that is a cradle for a pre made switch, sure looks like the ones CNR use.
