In my limited experience of restoring older and niche locomotives, this is the unfortunate state of things. Even if you only need the handful of usable parts from an otherwise CLEARLY scrap locomotive, you have to bid like it's in mint condition to stand half a chance of winning. I don't get the economics of paying MSRP for a few parts, but that doesn't stop it from happening.
Put them up for sale on Trainboard , I'd be interested in a few SD45T-2's ....... and the included challenge of seeing if anything could be brought back to life. I'll go and warm up the milling machine. Its obviously totally uneconomical but the chances of any manufacturer releasing T-2's looks pretty grim. ........ if you post to Australia ... I'm paying USPS.
LOL Bidder could 'ave been IDIOT ME I just assumed (wrong!) all switch machines were 'electric' (none were 'manual'!) and here in rural Georgia there is no "recycle pickup" (or cops!) instead we have numerous scattered recycling drive-thru drops with metal recyclers weighing in/out, paying per pound . .
I would buy several of the F-units for bashing purposes and the parts, even if it meant taking a Dremel™ to the frames to get the shells off of them. As Original Poster has indicated that the frame halves are already useless, who cares if I destroy them?
Just do something so we can be done with this already...sell them , or throw them...Many on he asking about buying some....Sell or throw...your choice...
The box of bad locomotives weighs over 200 pounds. The box does not fit in the trunk of my car. It is too heavy for UPS or FEDEX pickup.
At one point, you had the bad ones listed. Would it be possible for us simply to send you a list of which ones we want in a PM? We can pay you whatever you want for the locomotive plus the postage. If we were to pay, say five dollars apiece for the locomotive plus two dollars each for postage, would that be too much bother for you? Of course, you could require a minimum postage, say eight dollars, but, if we bought more, the cost per locomotive would go down. Mind you, these figures are just numbers that I pulled out of my head. Actual sale price and postage, would be, of course, at your discretion and determination.
I am looking for a place locally to drop off the locomotives. I do have a few shells that are undamaged: BN F7A #732 BN F7B #725 DRGW F7B No number ATSF Warbonnet B unit no number
