You are correct, its partly the sensor size. Smaller sensor = Greater Dept of field. Its also the distance the sensor is from the Hyper Focal Point of the lens. At least thats how I understand it, but in practice that the idea has held up well. Point and Shoots make great macro cameras. Also almost all cropped sensor Digital SLR stopped down beyond say F11 will actually start to lose sharpness overall. The issue is Diffraction. So stopping down beyond F11 will give you the perception that more is in focus but at the cost of limiting your overall image sharpness. Mike
Mine is from the Pleistocene Era of digital cameras... cause its about 3 [billion] years old. At that time I didn't want to spend more than $200.00 for a digital camara... so I got a Panasonic DMC-FX3 for about $150.00... a similar equipped camara today is about $30.00. Next camara will be a digital SLR type with at least 10 MP and at least 10x optical zoom. I'm still a pathetic photographer... so even a great quality camara will not make my photo skills any better.
Sub $100 Kodak something or other. My father always told me: "It was a poor musician that blamed the instrument." As such I tend to minimize or maximize my expenses on tools. I concentrate on either: Just getting the shot off Carefully composed image
I use an old Kodak DX 4330 ... It is beat up, but it does the job. I also used a Samsung a920 camera phone for some of the shots in my profile. It does the job that's the important thing lol.
Those are some nice pics! Thank you guys for all your input and after looking around I found a good deal on a Nikon so I bought it on eBay. It's this one and i hope it works as well as all the reviews I have read say it will! Nikon Coolpix S560 10.0 Megapixel Digital Camera - eBay (item 140527052203 end time Mar-25-11 10:54:30 PDT) It's a Nikon Coolpix S560 and I read that it actually does video as well. Does anyone know if this is true? And if so, how good is the video quality? Here is a link to a video I made using my Samsung F40: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERx8l8D52Zg
I actually use two types. Nikon D5000, with stock 18mm-55mm and 55mm-200mm lenses, As well as a Pentax k1000 35mm SLR with 55x200 as well
I have many Nikon cameras but have gone to almost always using my CoolPix L22 for pics and videos. Thanks , Mike
