I have an LGB 25171 Christmas loco and a Marklin Z 8801 that run for a minute then slow down and the overload light on the power pack illuminates. I use the same power pack for both, yet other locos run fine with the same power pack. I put a new motor in the LGB and cleaned it, but did not change the brushes. I think I serviced the Marklin completely - cleaned all contacts, wheels and track with alcohol and changed the brushes. Anyone have this problem with a loco? What did I miss?
Howdy. You might try using separate power packs for the G and Z layouts. That would probably fix your poroblem. There is a technical reason for this but it would be a technical explanation which might tend to be boring. Get a proper Z power pack, they need far lower voltage and amps than the G gauge does. Hope this helps... Woodie
Thanks for your response Woodie. Tried that and still the same problem. Both locos slow down with a Tech4 260 and with the power packs that came with the sets and other locos run fine with with these power packs. I did find that when I apply power directly to the Z loco brushes, the motor runs fine, so I'm thinking I did not clean all contact - I haven't tried this yet for the G scale as it's packed away.
