Some good looking work being done here!!! Paul that Sar dash 9 looks good on your layout... I bet it would look Great behind some Yellow unit's
Copy of a prototype, made of bristol board, basswood, Campbell's corrugated metal, styrene, etc., this entirely scratchbuilt HO scale cotton gin plant by Doyle Bond of San Antonio Model Railroad Association goes somewhere on the layout. More detailing and weathering to be done. Not bad for a beginning!! can't wait to see the finished product! Nice job there, Doyle!! [ September 04, 2005, 01:12 PM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
Cotton gins, like steam locomotives, are pretty much unique items. Each one seems to be quite different. They are interesting structures with sheds, wings, dormers, vents, cyclone bins and all sorts of odd attachments hanging off of the main building.
Looks like Jerry is coming out!!!!! Here is the last warehouse to get it's doors painted and put on. after that I started doing some detail around the warehouse walls etc,etc...
Really nice stuff all. Very nice and Jerry, is that a DD40X? Very cool and HUGE engine. Did do a few things this weekend. Milled the frame of the F7 to get ready for decoder and Gyralight. Did not receive the LED's or surface mount resistors so in a holding pattern for now. Did install the decoder in the second SD24, applied a bit of weathering and ran a nice little consist of SD40, SD24, SD24. [ September 04, 2005, 05:17 PM: Message edited by: sitchad ]
Yes, it is the new Overland release. Wish I had a place to run this! It is a very large unit, and very heavy!
Here's what I finally got to finish this weekend. Here's the befores, Hallmark U33C. EBay win, $153. I just didn't like the curve of that warbonnet!
And here's the 'afters'. Hand painted ATSF blue on the yellow over-sized warbonnet. Got it much closer to the ATSF look I think. A little dulcoat blended it together nicely. A few more decals, BLMA and Sunrise detailing, brake chain, windows, done!
Added ATSF roof top detailing to make the U33C a U36C. To get the air conditioner to set right, I laid a piece of sand paper over the body, and slowly moved the air conditioner back and forth till it had the 'curve' of the GE body. A little Walthers GOO held it in place. Radio antenna stand is a spare piece of styrene. [ September 04, 2005, 05:42 PM: Message edited by: OC Engineer JD ]
Side windows were covered to 'moderize' it a little bit. Painting the sills black was a real trial of patents!
Still need to add couplers, and I may change the front nose hearld to a better colored blue one. I'll wait and see how it looks after some weathering.
Love those BLMA rear view mirrors! Next.......my F45 gets the detailing treatment. Number 8757 was chosen as it was one of the last U36C units that was retired by the ATSF unchanged to an SF30C. [ September 04, 2005, 05:45 PM: Message edited by: OC Engineer JD ]
