I'm sitting here at SFO waiting for an infuriating 50 minute connector back to Sac. Vacation was fun but we are ready to be home. If I'm awake tomorrow I'll have pictures to post.
It's the summer of 1976 and EJ&E's No. 5 is at Barrington, IL, headed by the "J's" Bi-Centennial SD-38-2 668. I'm a teenager earning money mowing lawns and color film is hopelessly out of my budget ( ), so we make do with Kodak Plus-X black and white print film. The unit is almost new, having been delivered by EMD in November in white and decorated by the road's shop forces in Joliet, IL.

Whenever I have seen the real thing in action, a mower or brush cutter, I always wonder if the operator keeps their doors and windows shut? Surely now and then they run through a hornets nest, etc. And when those creatures are angry.....
I think it would be pretty embarrassing to have to call in helpers around here. More likely something went ka-put and they just swapped out the lash-up.
A lot of smoke in the air the morning I took this one. That smoke made the lighting a bit funky and nice. Well, except for the thought of the fires.
Is this double track? Or a main and siding? looks well kept enough it might be two? Is "90" a milepost or speed limit?
