Mug shot: IMGP1661A_MLW_4-8-4_U4a_CNR_6400 by Mike VE2TRV posted Nov 11, 2016 at 3:53 PM Canadian National class U-4-a Northern 6400, streamlined loco built by MLW in June 1936, some of the finest iron to polish the rails on the CN system. It powered CN's top varnish, including the 1939 Royal Train back in 1939. From my archives, Canadian Science and Technlogy Museum, Ottawa, July 19th, 2008. The CSTM is undergoing major renovations since last year, after lots of mold was found in the former industrial bakery building that housed the museum. By re-opening day next year, they'll have a new building with, hopefully, more space for the trains.
The new Kanawha River Railroad the ex NS WV Sec., got these NS SD60 on lease and they re painted one of them. the new railroad not doing much on weed control. Curtis
What are they? Apparently they don't weigh much, being on light weight flat cars, and requiring only a single engine.
Captured last Saturday, CSX rolls south at Shepard, SC on the former SAL mainline, led by GE AC60CW 697.
It developed a ground fault in the electrical system and kept shutting down. The problem was located but there was not enough time to repair and test it. They have an agreement with the local freight road to get an engine quick when they need it. As soon as they get the other Alco that they picked up running they will use it for back up.
The most interesting stuff I saw this week, except for the shots I missed! Like the sunrise silhouette shot of an oil train going down the old Milw line near Terry......... Here's a DIT GP-50, A BE leading an empty, And a pair of them as DP power on a load.
