Kanawha River Railroad have been taking business leaders and government officials on train rides. First day was from Columbus,Ohio to the Ohio River in Ohio. The pic shows them getting on for a trip into West Virginia, from Point Pleasant,WV to below Charleston,WV Curtis
I am babysitting some repossessed homes here, and this view from the west bedroom of one of them tempts me ALL the time!
However, I did get in some railfanning. This local set is sitting idle on the Circle/ Redwater branch. Behind it are two spurs, the bulkhead flats are at the pipeyard, (drilling and casing pipe,) and to the right is the tank farm. The tanks on the train are empty. Also noticed the lead unit is a GP-38-3.
Apparently the CP is power short for harvest. Northbound grain loads ease thru Minot with a UP donkey bringing up the rear.
Amtrak #8, the eastbound Empire Builder, dimmed its headlights in advance of the flashing approach signal guarding the siding at the east end of the trestle, where a unit grain train waits its turn to grind uphill. Canon T5, f13, 168 sec, 18mm Photo taken with permission on private property.
I was just down around that country a few weeks ago, Between Raton NM and Quanah TX along the BNSF pretty much all the way, lots of trains running. Was sure green, and the tallest weeds along the highway I have ever seen down there in that triangle between Childress, Paducah and Quanah. I was surprised at how busy it was around Dalhart TX.
