I got a few shots today. First up is the end of load tracks at Vulcan Quarry in Hanover, where a CSX Rock Runner is being prepared to be loaded. 20160128_084308 by Adam Henry, on Flickr I also caught lite power moving past the old station on Railroad St near the CSX/Maryland and Pennsylvania diamond. Not certain if it was power for the above Rock Runner, or todays power for the D795. 20160128_105229 by Adam Henry, on Flickr 20160128_105234 by Adam Henry, on Flickr 20160128_105240 by Adam Henry, on Flickr 20160128_105245 by Adam Henry, on Flickr
CSX local switcher at Point Pleasant,WV is heading on the NS WV Sec. to pick-up a depressed flat car. Here is the flat car from the power plant. Curtis
Three little switchers all in a row. The first is an SW1200. It started out as a Lehigh Valley SW9 I think who upgraded it, then Carolina Rail Service and now Genesis Warehouse. Next is a Baldwin DS44-750 that belonged to the Texas Mexican RR. Then an ex ATSF Alco S2. The EMD was having trouble dragging them up a slight grade after a swamp where the track was under water at Canal Street in Houston. He had no sand. Another guy and I grabbed some shovels out of one of our baggage cars and performed a third world solution. We shoveled ballast up on top of the rails. As the switcher rode over it the rocks were crushed into sand. Finally got the two dead switchers across the pit and then came back and got the rest of the cars we were moving.
You're a good man, Charlie (Russell) Brown. BTW, nice brace of switchers. Glad to see the Alco still has its muscle.
Is it just an optical illusion, or are there still some active shippers out in that area? If so, I'd bet any switch crews are a bit nervous about going the ground out there.
Nothing has moved on this line since we stuffed the museum cars two years ago back along the warehouse on the upper right on the google link if you zoom out. However, Genesis moves a lot in and out on the line seen half a block up on the image. They have put cars and their SW1200 on the ground a few times. Yesterday we had the entire collection in their yard where we sorted things out before returning most of them to our storage track. Three cars were left in the yard to be moved out as soon as the UP car inspectors give the OK. As soon as we can get track laid at the new museum location in Tomball, Texas, we will pull them out for good and move there.
