Standing atop the old 40 overpass on Track 1, looking across and above Donner lake, a double stack makes it's way westbound for the big hole aka Tunnel 41 on Track 2.
Last weekend, the Illinois Valley Division of the NMRA held their summer cookout at Peck Park in Galesburg Illinois. The BNSF North-South lines pass over the BNSF East-West lines at the northeast corner of the park, and they border the east and north sides of the park, respectively. Close to 20 trains passed by...mostly containers on the E-W line, and mostly freight and a northbound AmTrak on the N-S line. I took these pics of graffiti on freight cars. In March of 2005, the BNSF moved a refinery vessel from the Port of Houston to a refinery outside Denver. They procured a Schnabel car for the move. Here they had to jack up the center of the car to clear the plate girders on the side of the bridge on a tight curve crossing Highway 90A in Richmond, Texas.
With several Western Maryland modelers currently posting on our forum, I thought of this Kodachrome taken 11/25/81 of a WM SD-40 leading on the B&O at Sand Patch, PA. Friends and I had turned away from Thanksgiving turkey and instead chose a road trip to see action in the Alleghenies.
It was an epic trip from NJ, made in a friend's big ol' late '60s Chevy sedan which ran with perfection the entire weekend. We all piled into a room at the Cumberland Holiday Inn, renowned for its perfect view of the B&O main.
I am finding all kinds of neat stuff in my old box-o-slides. Here is a scruffy looking GP60 from May of 2004.
I love that shot of WM! That speedlettering scheme was so good looking, shame it disappeared under disgusting Chessie orange.
This pair of GP's is on the point, with GE's behind, as a Sidney local sits a few miles north of Glendive awaiting a crew. Funny thing is, the power is all shutdown, but the lights are still on! The batteries on these things are huge, 1100 lbs each and 2 per unit, so I guess the batteries will be ok.

Wasn't going to post again, but ran into this one on the way home tonight. BNSF#7644, CP#9711, and NS#8433 sitting at Metro siding southbound with a grain train. CP#8642 with a little different scheme working DPU 8/5/18. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
