Alas, this was taken with my cellphone Couple of weekends ago was Portola Railroad days. Every year Amtrak and the WPRRM runs a fan special up from Emeryville to Portola using private cars. Then WPRRM runs a seperatly ticketed trip from Portola to Keddie and back. This is that trip getting ready to run with WP GP9 in the lead. It was a ridiculously muggy day for the Northern California Sierras.
Most assuredly not! It was a trick of where I was to take the picture. That's Union Pacific Property and they did a good job of making sure the many people in town for the festivities were not in the yard. I was on the viewing platform set up at the museum which was very full, but that particular area was not. Festivities occurred all over town and at some lakes (bass fishing tournament) nearby. So the entire town was crowded. There were plenty of people observing from other locations.
Caught it almost to the end of the 12 mile line. The high bridge is Interstate 77/64. the lower is CSX mainline. the two engines are GP38-2's, a JPTX and a UP. The train only had 13 loaded coal cars. Curtis
