Some of the power used on the old Austin and Northwestern line these days. Parked west of Bertram, Texas. In front is FBRX SD40-2.
Lovely. When this train visited Meridian, MS many years ago, the engineer told me that the controls had been upgraded to be the same as most modern road engines. This was done so that any road engineer could bid on any of this train's PR trips. The assignment was limited to one week to give as many engineers a chance as possible. The engineer became a member of the PR team who slept on the train and ate his/her meals in the diner with the rest of the team. He said it was a choice assignment sought after by most engineers.
