Today and Tomorrow, the California State Railroad museum is having their annual special membership event. I attended with my 4 year old. This year the even featured a short presentation on the history of the Walnut Grove Branch which is the former SP nee Sacramento Southern line that the current Museum train runs on. In addition we got a special excursion behind number 10. Rather than stop at baths, the train pushed over the newly repaired bridge over I5 and down around a mile or so to Land Park and the Zoo. There is no station there yet, but there is a hope that eventually there will be. Still a fun ride, a section of track that they've only run on once previously...in January of this year. Here's number 10 resting after the trip.
A Rock Island 4-6-2 is ready to pull a train out of Houston's Union Depot and head for Dallas on the Burlington-Rock Island joint line. This would have been in the 1930s before a light weight train pulled by a TA diesel was introduced.
Built as Northern Pacific GP9 #335 in 8/1957! That units had quite the career, and rebuilding!! There was one of them that was rebuilt originally by the GN-from an FT booster unit from the 40's!! Ran around Seattle here until 2013!

It was railroad days in Homewood, Illinois. Today was their annual train themed celebration. It included swap meet style model railroad and railroadiana vendors, food and music, kiddie train rides, and a model railroad display in the community auditorium. My modular club, along with some others, were set up in there. Homewood also has a railroad park/viewing platform similar to Rochelle, Illinois. There is a CN yard there and Metra electric district/Amtrak station too. The parking lot is directly next to the tracks, so you can legally get within 10 feet of the CN yard lead. There was a lot of autorack movements back and forth for most of the day. It looks like they were assembling a train. On the other side of the tracks, a IC GP10 and caboose are on display. You can get in the cab and operate all the controls, as well as go inside the caboose. While I was messing around in the cab with some other guys in my club, a train led by an Elgin, Joliet and Eastern SD38-2 went by, with a CSX locomotive and the NS Interstate heritage unit in tow. Also to note, the signal bridge still has a set of searchlight signals.
