I managed to get a couple of cars done this week! Kadee 50' Hydroframe PS1 Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and lettered with Mask Island Decals. Car was built in 1962 and had the ladders shortened and was repainted in 1970, used in general service. Branchline 1944 AAR Boxcar Kit, painted with Floquil Reefer Gray and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Car was built by the Desoto Shops in the late 50's. In 1975 the car was either in a wreck in Mexico and was repainted in this gray scheme or it was an experimental paint scheme by the railroad. Needless to say this is the only car of this type with the gray paint scheme. Lets see more great work by the modelers on this forum. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
Rick, Just curious. How large is your freight car roster? Everything you show us is very nicely done and you seem to crank them out at an almost frightening rate.
Here's an older shot, just for fun. I bought a couple Atlas painted vehicles and customized them with decals and a proper environment.
Just guessing: 450 Boxcars, 90% custom painted. 220 Covered Hoppers, ,90% Custom Painted 100 Hoppers, most factory painted 40 Ore Jimmys, all factory painted 30 gons 75% custom painted 25 tank cars, all custom painted 25 flat cars 50% custom painted 50 Trailers, 95% custom painted Of course I have been doing this for close to 40 years, but I have really been trying to get rid of my backlog of undecorated kits starting about 7 years ago when I had my hip replacement and nothing to do for a couple of months, while not working. Candy, I like that you post incremental progress. What I enjoy is finding those tiny details you have added. They often become overshadowed by how you build on the overall concept, usually at the structure level. Thanks
I get to play on the big layout this weekend! Approximately 12 scale miles to make it completely around to your initial starting point.
Russel, What manufacturer produces those Daylight cars? I have a string of Concours, (sp?) but I think yours look much better. Candy. It has been said over and over how much we enjoy your talent. I can't recall seeing a photo of your over-all layout. Is it a lay-out, or do you make your wonderful scenes as individual dioramas?
Those are N scale cars from Kato. I re-lettered the numberboards to reflect the cars used on the Sunbeam and later, the Hustler in Texas. In 1937, the T&NO replaced the heavyweight cars running on the Sunbeam since 1925 with the new lightweight cars from Pullman at the same time that identical cars for the new Daylight trains were put into service in California. The head end of the Sunbeam did look a little different than its California Cousin. I had to kit bash the locomotive and two baggage cars as Kato did not make these. The Sunbeam did not have the baggage/coach combine, triple unit diner or as many cars as the Daylight.
The start of my next project. SP SD-9's. I am thinking of making one of each class. DF-120, DF-121, DF-122, DF-124 and DF125 (Haven't quite made up my mind yet) Thanks, Wolf
This is more modeling...This started out as an undecorated Athearn blue-box SD40T-2. I milled down the fuel tank, opened up the radiator grills, and installed S&S grills. The rear truck is mounted to the frame with a screw...so it's really only half a motor...
