The Houston Museum of Natural Science has an O scale layout that is set up each December and January. Some friends and I went to check it out this week before they put it away for the rest of the year. There are about 4 separate islands, most with multiple trains running. Scenes from around Texas are depicted highlighting various landmarks that are squeezed in together. Here is a hand held, low light, shot of San Antonio with the Alamo and Tower of America. A depot representing the Texas Transportation Museum is behind the Daylight passenger train.
Managed to finish a couple of cars this week! Bowser Round Roof 40' Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and Black Paints then lettered with Champ Decals. The DT&I had a 1,000 of these cars built in 1939, they were repainted in this scheme in the late 50's and some lasted in auto parts service until 1979. Tangent Models PRR X58 Boxcar painted with Scalecoat II PRR Boxcar Red and lettered with Herald King Decals. Thousands of these cars were built in the 1964 to 65 period and were known as the Vietnam Veterans. Many lasted into the PC, Conrail, CSX, and NS service until their recent retirement. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
Loading mail bags onto a Santa Fe baggage car. John The engine couples on.... And almost ready for departure!
Jim; no worries. Sometimes it gets hard to track which pictures we've posted. I always enjoy seeing your spectacular photography. And Wolfgang....wow....just wow! John
FREMO H0 meeting in Hamburg - Northern Germany - this weekend. A Northern German Branchline in 1966 Diashow - some 6 minutes
Same meeting - some 6 minutes of video 1966 - DB - Deutsche Bundesbahn - German Federal Railway. No steam anymore in 1966 - but a lot of red Diesel Engines.
Both cars are great, but I really like this. Excellent painting and decaling. My favorite thing to do in this hobby and I've sort of gotten away from it while building my layout. Good work!!
Someone had posted a photograph of the Rio Grande Zephyr with the Steam Generator car made from an ALco PB unit. In the late 70s it was converted to four axle Blomberg trucks since the Grande was an all EMD road by that time. The 253 Steam Generator car is what I am trying to model here. I have converted it to the four axle Athearn trucks. I still have to paint it and add some other details. This is a long project, as it has been in progress for over 15 years....
My immediate reaction on seeing your top photo was "Uh, O-k-a-a-a-y...everything has a prototype somewhere, but really?" Now, with the explanation, I look forward to seeing your result.
I have the parts to build one of the baggage cars converted to steam generators by the GN that the WP used. That's a cool project.
Here are a couple of photos of some figures added to a service station and a repair shop. I have to order some more detail parts and add some signs to the fence at the repair shop. It's getting there. A bit too clean at the moment.
Lots of nice modeling again this week. I like the old DT&I round roof car. Detroit and Mackinac also acquired some of those, which I think may have come from the DT&I. Also enjoyed Jim's photo and John's black and white night shots were stunning as usual. Candy's factory scene captures a nice mood as usual, but I am curious about the vehicle (bus?) at the right of the photo. Speaking of vehicles, Montanan's gas station and garage are also going to be great scenes. I'm not familiar enough with the SP to know what locomotives wore which paint scheme in a given year, but the vehicles tell me it's not too long after 1956. Very nice.
