From 1853 until the end of the Civil War, the BBB&C ran trains between Harrisburg (just southeast of Houston) and Alleyton, Texas. Alleyton was on the banks of the Colorado River opposite Columbus, Texas. After the war, due to lack of maintenance and the financial collapse of the region due to Reconstruction of the South , the railroad went into receivership and was sold. The new railroad was called the Galveston, Harrisburg, & San Antonio Railroad which later became part of the Southern Pacific. Here is my N scale creation of what one of its trains might have looked like.

The lower lighting does wonders for that PRR shot, really gives it "atmosphere!"

I see Thomas. That's good for a chuckle, as yesterday when I sat down for lunch, for reasons unknown I clicked on the TV. Surfing the channels I stumbled upon that show, and actually watched it.

The museum in Rosenberg was having their annual "Railfest" and about half the attendees were 5 and under. (well they did drag their parents along) Anyway, Thomas and Friends were a big hit on the layout. Get them hooked while they are young and maybe they will remain rail fans their entire life. ;)

I think that may be the first loco I've seen with an actual ladder to the roof. Neat!

How many years did they use the induction phone system? Was it out of service before the Penn Central days?

The induction phone system was removed a few years after delivery and before the Penn Central days. Later locomotives used the Sinclair Radio Antenna system so as to be compatible with the NYC. The Antennas were removed when the locomotives were renumbered as a precurser to the merger.
