In June of 1954, the Santa Fe inaugurated its last new light weight streamliner, the San Francisco Chief. The 2555 mile route between Chicago and San Francisco was the longest run in the country on just one railroad. It used a mix of new and older light weight cars. The new full-length dome and lunch counter-diner-dormitory cars were joined with older coaches, sleepers and diners. Later, new coaches and sleepers replaced some of the older cars. Here are the diner, dome and lunch counter diner that I use to create my early N scale San Francisco Chief.

The UP's SP heritage unit made an appearance on the layout this week. It got a dcc decoder installed in it last weekend.

Well, to start with, we have the front end of the Rio Grande PROSPECTOR., Then the SPANISH FORK CAÑON following the Silver Lizard.
The next three photos are of a special run from a group called THE SALT LAKE TRACKERS. This was a model railroad club that had been around for awhile by 1996.
The cars represent the UTAH STATEHOOD CENTENNIAL. They're numbered 1847, when the pioneers first arrived, 1896 when Utah received statehood, and 1996, the centennial car....
