Welcome to this weekend edition. Lets see some great stuff that you folks have. For my contribution I have this shot on my NTRAK modules. The Southern Pacific train #2 is approaching the semaphores for the diamond at Tower 114. T&NO PA #208 leads #207 at the head of the Sunset Limited after replacing the Pacific Lines power in El Paso.
Guard rail installed after horrific LESSON LEARNED on the LLL when gawkers were overawed by the spectacular scenic overlook near the freight station and drove off the road over the bluff.
Heliocopter view of three levels on the JJJ&E: High in the mountains of the JJJ&E: Stay cool and run steam....
Awesome start, Russell! Mark Great picture and scene! John W Great pictures! Love the bridges! Bob Cool views of the layout! Here is a little scene from the Water Tower Diorama. I wonder what secret load has to be loaded at a remote water tower and who are those shady characters?
Great photos guys, had fellow trainboarder Patrick over last night and took some shots of the newly acquired CP SD40-2's Will post some pics shortly from Patricks new Canon 8 mp camera
Here are some shots by Patricks new Canon Powershot Pro1 8 megapixel camera I'm sure Pat would appreciate some comments I think the super macro feature is excellent as you can see from the last photo
Russell: Where did you get the fire escape on the Imperial Sugar building? Very nice! How do you keep from knocking down the power line poles when you clean the track on the module? I have no power lines on my layout for that very reason!
Paul.......Patricks new Canon takes great pictures, however, it made one of your MoPac units look yellow!
SNFF 6 5 05 Hi, all, Thx to inspiration on this Forum and others, I've started experimenting with ballasting my Kato Unitrack layout. First up will be to experiment with the color/type of ballast. Santa Fe used a somewhat unique pinkish color in Northern Arizona - the following is my first attempt, using Arizona Rock and Mineral's approximation of that ballast: (This was done using standard ballasting techniques, i.e. good soaking pre-wet of the ballast, followed by 50/50 Elmer's Glue/water mixture, both applied with eyedropper). I'll continue to play around with the color, with weathering it further, etc. Next is the more important experiment - trying this with a Kato turnout - we'll see if I can avoid gluing the turnout shut. Stay tuned.
I scratch built that using Plastruct shapes, steps and handrails. As for my telegraph poles, they take a beating. It is more from moving the modules for set up and tear down than track cleaning. Ever so often the linemen have to do some maintenance.
John: Ballast looks great! Pink Santa Fe ballast, I believe; prototypically correct, BTW. Did you paint the track/rails first? It looks good.
Thx, Flash. Yes, I painted the Unitrack first, using my standard mix of Roof Brown with a few drops of Grimy Black, the same paint mix that I documented in: http://community.webshots.com/album/60614024xfYZdo Here's an additional shot of this ballasted Unitrack, with my initial weathering project LL SD7 sitting in: I do think in the previous ballast only pictures, the ballast needs to be weathered, it looks too new. (smile) (pardon the cRapido coupler which of course rather ruins the view!)
Colonel, the CP units look right at home down there in Aussie land! The picture quality is only overshadowed by the modelling greatness that is your layout. All that pre "borg" paint you've got looks too cool.
From Australia, weathering by Sten: My SD50/60's on Sydney N Scale layout. DRGW by Jason. A great time was had by all. Thanks to Jason/Sten/Greg/Colonel.
