I drove 75 miles to the swapmeet today in darkest Yorkshire. and came away with a lighter wallet plus a bag of reefers and other freight cars. Here's the haul A couple of Kadee boxcars A couple of L/L cars - a soo flat and one I couldn't resist, Belcher oil A BLI express reefer - knocks Athearn into a cocked hat Half a dozen Atlas reefers And finishing up with a Trix NYC caboose - I changed out the trucks, wheels and couplers Jon
Congratulation, Jon. But this means a lot of work, weathing all those cars. I would be busy weeks. Wolfgang
Matthew, As a modern day MoPac modeller its great to see some earlier MoPac on here. One suggestion is the caboose doesnt have glass in the windows. I added some windows using plastic from a trainworx box and it made such a difference. Here is a photo of one of mine that i modified. Jon, Brilliant weathering and modelling
I continue to be amazed at the talent you guys show. I can see I am in deep trouble with trying to do as well. I have a few contributions this week. Since the track laying on the mainlines seem to sound and working I went ahead and added the deck for the yard area. Here is the West end Looking down the bulk of the yard area. Got the master switches installed and wired. And messed around and ran a few trains. Had a little trouble with the couplers on my LL GP-9 so I changed them to Kadee #58's, the "scale" size. Seem to work good and they are a bit smaller than the ones LL supplied. Hope to start laying yard track next week. MLW, that backdrop is making me think twice about the ones from Backdrop Warehouse. It looks great.
still raining in these parts...time to do some work on the BearCatRR. But you got to watch those clever cows... Who let the cows out?
Nice work again tonight Guys. Here's what I worked on this week. Got the scenery roughed in between the yard and the upper line and then layed the track across the upper line and around the corner to the far end of the room and back under the bridge to the yard. Eight more pieces of flex track and we'll have a loop on the upper level. Ground cover trees and shrubs are aways away, lots more wiring to do.
Chad: The layout is coming along very nicely. The Kadee # 58 are better couplers than the old Kadee #5's although somewhat smaller. Stay cool and run steam......
Thanks Bob, It's been coming along. My plan is to try and lay the 3/16 sheet cork in the yard area so I can finish laying the track. Then, start cutting foam to rough in the town and other scenery. Oh, have to put up that last piece of Masonite for the background. Rather than painting one, I suck at artistic type painting, I might invest in a couple of backdrops from Backdrop Warehouse. Was thinking of something like this
Chad: I also don't like to paint backdrops. I used clouds and blue sky wallpaper for the backdrops I'm working on for the JJJ&E. This works well since the JJJ&E is in the mountains. I'll post some photo's when the backdrops are almost finished . Those loco's are really nice.... BTW, I'm adding a shortline to the JJJ&E along with a small staging area. This the fourth and last addition to the JJJ&E. It seems like I've said this before. Stay cool and run steam.....
I used backdrops from backdrop warehouse. And they worked great. Adding depth and detail to the back ground. You have no horizon or sharp edges when you use this method. Here is a sample photo. Mike
