Hi all, I recently finished weathering an Athearn GP35 as practice for some other projects (Kato GP35's). Luckily i did not need to repaint and re-decal the unit (just renumbered it). I have not finished adding details yet (lift rings, mu hoses, coupler cut levers...) and some bits like weathering couplers and gluing back some stray railing need to be addressed. Weathering was done in layers using oils, enamels, acrylics, salt. I hope you like it and thanks in advance for your time. Yannis An in-progress shot Completed roof-top shot
Looks very nice (if that's the right way to say you done weathered it well) with the faded, uneven look of the colors. I do have to ask if you intend to replace the number boards?
Eagle2 and Jim many thanks for the kind comments! Eagle, yes by all means the numberboard will change to 1327 as well. At the time of re-decalling i omitted dealing with this being unsure if it was lighted or not (i worked with the shell on the locomotive...). I ll deal with it along with the rest of the remaining detail parts.
Bill, Dalebaker and Boxcab thanks for the kind words!!!! Boxcab, good point on the wash rack as an excuse i don't have one on the layout . Some Kato units most probably will have a similar fate.
Thanks Mike! I now need to put it back on the layout for some test runs to verify that the weathering didn't affect things (had to work on the shell while it was on the locomotive... which has cost me a lot of time and extra effort).
