I like Atlas' choice, but would like to know what roads had these switchers? I think the CP did and would love some pics. Thanks, Clint
Not too sure about other roads but I know the Lehigh Valley had a few. Some of the roads Atlas will produce are here: www.atlasrr.com/highlights/vo1000.asp
Clint asked about roadnames Check out this page ===== http://www.trainweb.org/westernrails/vo-1000/vo-1000.html ===== This link shows CP bought 10 later model Baldwin DS4-4-1000 switchers in 1948. Except for us Frisco freaks, most may not know that the first batch of Frisco's VO1000s were delivered in blue & white, with red "Frisco Lines" on the white. Which, concidering this was during World War II when they were delivered, made for some pretty patriotic-looking diesels. This info is from Lou Marre and John Baskin Harper's book "Frisco Diesel Power", published in the early 1980s by Interurban Press. All that aside, it's a shame that Atlas didn't offer a Frisco-painted VO in this run, but perhaps the second. In the meantime, call up the paintshop........now where can I find yellow stripe decals around here?
