Hello! I found a nice discussion about our Model Railway on this site. I want to give you the direct link to our page. I hope you can see it now, because it´s the first time i try to add a text. I´m one of the owner of this huge HO railway. My english is not very good, but we have two guys, who build up our site in english. The need about 2 weeks. In this moment we have a german site with a lot of pictures. Come in and take a look: Miniatur Wunderland Model Railroad
Wilcommen Aus Trainboard!! Ich spreche ein bischen Deutsch. Deine "Miniatur Wunderland" ist ser gut!! Dahnke fur das invitation und photographen!! John
Jcater - Yea! like what you just said! MW - Holy suffern' baldheaded jackrabbits! Did you fellows win a German lottery or something? I was wondering why flextrack is scarce here in the US!! LOL All of that benchwork looks pre-fab to me, or else these guys have a woodshop at their disposal, a big woodshop! This is definately cool! How many fellows are working on this? This is soooooo out of my league, but "you gotta love it"!! 2slim
I have looked at their site and I´m surprised to see how much substructure has been done in such short time. I have bookmarked the site and looking forward to see the development. Think of 50000 spruce, 500 trains, 7000 cars, etc..... That´s a LAYOUT ------ Helge Sandy River & West Forrest NARA member #5
What a truly amazing layout My mind is well and truly boggled! I will certainly keep an eye on the website.
Now that is what I call an excellent layout with a lot of pre-planning, and prise winning workmanship. I am truely impressed!
Wow!!! Just used the Alta vista, works very well I think I can see why the plan looks a little incomplete. perhaps either it is just the first phase, or the shear size permits it! Wish I was there!!! Just looked at the site, overwhelmed by the shear volume of tehse pictures! So, when will we build one of these in America? I think it could be wildly interesting, featuring parts of the entire North American contient! I'm sure we could have half/half modern/steam!!! Just think, all of the cars on the highways will be LIGHTED!!! AND the lighting replicates Day/night!!!! If I have done my conversions correctly(someone corrct me if I am wrong, remember that all conversions deal with a squared unit, one square meter equals 1000 square cm) I just computed the surface area of the initail benchwork to be about 1722.22 sqaure feet. If I'm not mistaken, thats a four bedroom house!!!!!!! Wow
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Benny: If I have done my conversions correctly(someone corrct me if I am wrong, .......) <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I don´t know how big feet you have in Arizona , but my calculations give this results: Build phase 1 is 282 sqmeters = 3035.42 sqft, build phase 2 is 170 sqmeters = 1829.86 sqft, so, a total of 4865.28 sqft. (A thumb rule for those who are not familiary with the meter system: 1 sqm = 10.7639 sqft, and 1 sqft = 0.0929 sqm) -------- Helge Sandy River & West Forrest NARA member #5
As an active member of the building crew I must say <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> THANK YOU,Everybody <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>for the positive comments on our layout project. And , to answer a couple of your questions, here are some facts and numbers: We're a crew of (currently) 25 totally out-of-mind model railroaders and try to build as much as possible by ourselves in our workshops. This goes for benchwork and scenery substructure alike. Currently, we're wiring section 1 of the layout so there isn't really much progress to see on the photos. As soon as one subsection is wired, the scenery team rolls in and covers the plywood hills with a screen mesh to indicate where the actual landscaping can be done during the next step. At the same time, our DCC specialists program the software and the decoders, and do test runs as well. We are quite optimistic to keep the opening deadline (August, this year)for these two sections of totally 4 sections. if you guys have more questions and/or comments, you're invited to leave a message in our forum at Miniatur Wunderland. If you'd like to watch the weekly work-progress updates, go to the above website and follow these steps: <UL TYPE=SQUARE>]<LI>Click on "Version ohne Flash"<LI><LI>From the top-menu, select "Anlage"<LI>From the sub-menu, select "Entstehung"<LI>Scroll down to see links to the work-weeks<LI>Enjoy![/list] The english version of our homepage is under construction and will need approx. 2 weeks to be completed. Best regards, Erhard (on behalf of Miniatur Wunderland)
All right, I see that my conversions are off...abit way off. I just talked to my uncle, and by using your conversions at this site and your web site, then: Total surface area: 1600 Sqr M 1 Sqr M = 10.7639 Sqr Ft Total surface area: 17222.24 Sqr FT!!!!!!!!!!!! How big will the total layout occupy, spacewise. Also, how much did this cost and how did you get the funding??!!!
OK Benny, I might misunderstand the "initial benchwork" area a bit. You calculated the whole surface area. So your figure was correct but the decimal point were wrong placed. It´s such things that happen. ------ Helge
