    Hi!

Has anyone used a USB to RS232 adapter to connect to the NCE DCC base station? We got it to work on our desk computers, but the laptops do not have legacy ports. I got a USB->RS232 adapter, but it didn't work. I'm thinking pin out, perhaps I need a null modem?

I got it to work with my old 300MHz notebook. I can't remember the name of my USB to RS232 adaptor, because I'm at work, but it was the one recommended on the JMRI list a couple years ago for NCE users.

If it's anything like the Digitrax MS100, you can't use a plain jane $15 adaptor. I use a Keyspan serial adaptor. I think the important part is that the adaptor has software drivers with it.

Yes, that's what mine is a Keyspan brand adaptor. It has clear blue ends on a clear cable showing the shielding inside.
