My first post here! I just found these on my hard drive, taken on 14th November 2001 by a friend at UP.

I love this new paint...the lightning adds alot of class to the red stripe and the flag looks just as cool on the side... I was fortunate enough, living 5 minutes away from GMD, to see one of them off the line and fresh out of the booth. I have some more pics to develop and I will post them when I can get to the photo mart

Hmm, the unit is an sd70m, but it looks like an sd75.

    Anyway great pics!!

Try again, an SD75M looks very similar to an SD70M.

By the way, the 4526, 4527, 4528 were the first UP units to wear the new Building America scheme. All units repainted from now on will have that scheme.

</font>[/QUOTE]To the best of my knowlege, the SD70M and SD75M are almost identical on the outside, with the main difference being internal differences that involve the power assembly and horsepower output (SD70M@4000HP, SD75M@4300HP). This information is strictly from my swiss cheese memory, so feel free to add facts if you wish. Of course, BNSF also has SD75I's, which is an SD75M with the later designed Isolated cab.

It appears that the SD70M is UP's 21st century answer to the SD40-2, so I would expect to see them around for the next 15-20 years (maybe longer). Many of UP's SD40-2's that were built in the early and mid 1970's are still out generating revenue for Uncle Pete today after nearly 30 years. Hopefully, the SD70M's will perform as well as their predecessors.
