Omaha, Neb., May 31, 2006 – Union Pacific Railroad today announced the promotions of Tom Florence to general superintendent-transportation services of its Los Angeles Service Unit, and Andy Yedlick to superintendent-transportation services of its El Paso Service Unit. The appointments are effective June 1, 2006.

In his new role, Florence will be responsible for the safe operation of an average 88 trains a day over more than 1,200 miles of track in southern California and southern New Mexico. Florence replaces Oliver Cromwell, who has left the company.

Florence started his railroad career with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, a part of the CSX, in 1978 as a management trainee in Baltimore. He held several positions in the operations and mechanical departments there, as well as in Chicago, and Jacksonville, Fla., before leaving CSX in 1988. He joined the Southern Pacific in 1993 and held several operating positions. The Union Pacific and Southern Pacific merged in 1996. Prior to being named general superintendent-transportation services of the Los Angeles Service Unit, Florence held the position of superintendent-transportation services of the El Paso Service Unit.

Andy Yedlick is being promoted to superintendent-transportation services of the El Paso Service Unit, replacing Florence. Yedlick will be responsible for the safe operation of an average 46 trains a day over more than 800 miles of track in western Texas and central and southern New Mexico.

Yedlick started his railroad career with the Chicago & North Western Railway in 1990 as a transportation employee in Chicago. He held several positions in the operations department in Chicago; Adams, Wis.; St. Paul, Minn.; Pine Bluff, Ark.; Ft. Worth, Texas; Omaha, Neb., and Los Angeles. In 2005, he was promoted to transportation superintendent at the San Bernardino, Calif., dispatching center, a position he held until his recent promotion.
