UP 4171 was at the Linwood terminal today. Dont know which way it will go, wish i could of gotten pictures!
I caught it yesterday @ Pomona 08:30... it was in a colorful consist: NS 9105 D9-40CW, NS 6777 SD60M (Conrail Quality) and UP4171 SD70M. I managed to get a few shots of it... Harold

No, I missed that goofy sight I caught quite a few trains in the past 48 hours besides the NS, CRQ, UP lashup: Heading north out of Winston-Salem yesterday, I caught NS 9720 D9-40CW and NS 2543 SD70 with a looooong string of grain hoppers; saw CSX 7825 & CSX 7691 tied up (together) in W-S; I could see NS 8808 & NS 6180 from the street; caught NS 9124 D40-9CW, NS 2537 SD70, NS 9349 D40-9CW, and NS (CRQ) 6730 SD60I @ Pomona, as well as the usual stack train power GP60s (NS 7145, 7146, 7103, 7118). I also saw other power running around Charlotte, Durham and Raleigh, but nothing terribly exciting or posed well. (The weather didn't help being overcast or drizzly). CSX has an ex-CR C30-7 # 7135 (?) in Raleigh... Pictures will be posted as soon as I acquire some more web space (I maxxed out again) Harold
Man, I need to get out 'fanning more often. I'm in WS every day (almost), and live within 10 minutes of Linwood.
If the news I read in the Trains Newswire is correct, you can go back to that flared SD70M of UP's and imagine it in NS black, sometime in 2003. Wonder if NS may have been checking it out to see how they would run on their RR (best guess is that it's pool power).
To top everything off the Research car 33&34 are working in the area so keep your eyes open. they were between Linwood and Charolette yeterday. UP SD40T2 #8636 was also in the engine terminal at Linwood today.
Saw UP5113 today come into Linwood on 172. BEAUTIFUL sight. ALSO had 4 LTV steel mining company GP20's(?) heading south on 337. Neat sights.........
Good catch, Len I just read in Diesel Era where UP was renumbering its remaining SD50's [from the 5000 series] to make room for more SD70M's Harold
