Which way was it going? I imagine that it would take a bunch of HP to push against that Dude. New York Central experimented with a jet engine to melt snow on their electrified third rail commuter rails north of Grand Central Terminal back in the 50's. NYC gave it up after one snow storm because of fuel costs. Apparently the jet exhaust heat was so narrow that the crew had to go real slow, moving the exhaust stream back and forth to get all the snow melted. Then they found that the melted snow (water) froze up shortly after they had passed which really screwed things up by putting a thick layer of ice on the third rail and freezing the switches....NOT GOOD!
Check out this vintage 1905 oil burning steam crane. It has been completely restored and is operational. It is not used though because of the cost of fuel. In Bogota Colombia South America.
Here are some different jacks and stands that have been repainted and put on display. The head guy at the shop didn't know how this ended up in Bogota but it is definantly out of place and a long way from home.
Stan, that appears to be one of Trackmobile's models, although painted NASA white instead of standard yellow. Take a look at the TRACKMOBILE site for more of their products.

Doesn't put out a whole lot of thrust. Plus, you could always turn it down so it doesn't put out as much thrust as the manufacturer says it can. (I'm a jet engine mechanic in the USAF, btw, that's the only reason I know anything about jet engines.)
Check out those COOOL wheel stops!!!! Actual wheels, cut it half, and welded to the rails!! It's not prototype folks!
Good catch Hemi! I was there and didn't even notice that. Gues I was just too wrapped up in all the other stuff I saw.
This item is on display at the Harvey House in Barstow. More MOW photos can be found here http://hrccomputing.com/Mainofway.htm
Loram , to me, also means Ballast Cleaner(BC10) and a deal! Was shooting all sorts of pics of ballast cleaner BC10 years ago. In action and during clean up at the end of the day. Was offered an interesting deal, by the on site supervisor: An official Loram company hat in exchange for a copy of ALL photos taken over a 2 day time frame! Now then, here's the rest from Thursday: Check the hi-rail in the background, following the grinder.
