I started the thread asking if anyone still manufactured S scale because I've been researching the less known scales for a writing assignment. From this research I've actually become fascinated with TT scale. S scale dates back to 1945 here in the U.S., but TT scale comes from the former Soviet Union and I've found very little information about it and no products from online vendors.

At 1:120, it fits nicely between HO and N. To me HO is too big to do layouts of the complexity I'd like; so I primarily collect N scale. But it sounds to me like TT scale would give allow a bit more detail while still economizing layout space.

The posts about encouraging Atlas to get into S scale in the other thread intrigued me. I got to thinking how awesome it might be to have Kato and Atlas TT products, complete with Unitrack and SnapTrak.

Does anyone here have any experience with TT scale?

I remember TT scale being talked about in the mid 60's Model Railroader. I did not know it came from Russia. Some time ago I saw some ads in MR IIRC about TT products being available in kit form. Still too small for my 10 thumbs and hammer hands. :D

TT intrigued me as a kid in the mid-60s for exactly the same reason - more trains in the same space.

Try this web site for your research:

If my memory is correct, there is an active TT manufacturer or two.

I know we have a member. I recall seeing at least one person note it. If ever there was enough activity, to merit a Forum here, I am sure the staff would be happy to consider the idea.

Although I have my focused personal interests, I certainly enjoy perusing other scales. You never know where a good idea can be found!

We have had a few topics here about the scale that I enjoyed reading so if it were to take off I'm sure we would great a forum for it...

Thanks riverotter, but I'd already found that site... and not much else. :D

According to Wikipedia it was invented by an American in 1946 but didn't catch on here. Wiki and other references I've found indicate its biggest market is in Eastern Europe. References frequently mention Russia and GDR/DDR.

Also according to Wiki, 1:120 is a common engineering scale where 1 in. = 10 ft. And TT matches the 15mm scale used by wargamers. Wiki also mentions that TTn3 uses N scale track. :)

Oddly enough the TT scale in the UK is 1:101, not 1:120.

The only real selection of TT that I've found so far is at Euro Train Hobby, and its all European.

I have a couple of TT cars and one loco. I'd much rather work in TT than N scale but there is just not enough modern era stuff to make it possible. If someone came out with just a few modern TT scale cars I'd flip in a second....dave
