Greetings Boys and Girls!!! I have a trivia question for you!!! As you know, Intermountain's newest releases of the cylindrical covered hopper is awesome, a much needed railcar type!!! The most colorful paintscheme ever created last century would be the CN Lifesaver car. Only one was ever painted, and only on one side! This is 2012!!!! Several years ago a member of the Z Scale community created the artwork for which a few of the Lifesaver decals were made using an ALPS printer. Trivia Question; Who was the Z Scale member who created the first artwork for this decal???? Good Luck!!!!
Both Tim and Myself made those decals. Tim sent me his artwork, so he did it first! And for part #2, Intermountian did the car in 6 roadnumbers, and ALL are foobies! What is the real number?
My guess is CN370708. Another question: What year would this have been painted in the rainbow/lifesavers scheme?
The best I can come up with is some time in 1970. This car and 3 others received special paint jobs for a TV ad.
Pulled from a Canadian railfan website: CN 235091 Mechanical Reefer CN 283032 Insulated Boxcar CN 370708 Cylindrical Covered Hopper CN 401527 Newsprint Boxcar
Wow!! This is awesome!!! I think this lil bit of trivia has grown to a great bit of knowledge. I'd like to thank all those who participated in this thread. John, I wish you wouldn't have given the answer to the first question away so soon. I am curious as to how many members would have taken a guess. Robert Ray clarified the answer for us as well as the artwork he modified to create the ultimate rainbow CN decal!!! I have to say, Robert you are the Master Modeler I look up to!!! Thanks, it was fun reading all your responses!!! Let's do this again soon!!! Hobo Tim
WEll, I wouldn't have guessed as I got a car directly from you. Still looks great !! Many of my train friends have asked "Where did you get that???? " ...don
First Rainbow CN covered hopper in Z scale. I found these photos I took shortly after applying the decals to one of Uncle Will's 3 bay Cylindricals! I actually didn't think I took any photos of this car, but I did. Yes, it only has 3 chutes on the bottom, but Robert's has 4!!!!!! Hobo Tim
