Maybe I missed it, has anyone suggested a gondola? I'm thinking of a gon loaded with wooden railroad ties (ala train boards) [IMG]

This would give us a purpose for a car with TrainBoard on the side. Here's my thought roughed out in a quick pic:

    Thoughts?

    Cheers! -Mike

I like both the tank car (well, OK, so I already voted for a tank once...) and the gondola, but I'd pesonally lean towards the tank.

Mucho kudos to all the artists for their submissions!

  3. I like SLSF Freak (Mike)'s idea (he does good work!). A Standard Steel 50ft Gon covers a good amount of era's/time, and can be done (as in his pic) in a nice, TrainBoard-y, but still realistic way.

The Tank Car is good as well, but is much more time sensative in terms of appropriate eras than a Gon.

And the idea of a Gon full of "Train Boards" just tickles my funny bone. I like it!

Or if the gon isn't carrying "train boards," it could always be used for "recent posts."

OK, I'm switching my vote to the gondola. I now retire to remove my tongue from my cheek.

That's a clever idea! I'd go for that.

Of course, my poor orangutan, Dee, is still hoping for a banana car...

I'm such a sucker for peer pressure - I'll switch my vote to a gondola too! :D Preferably an MDC (Athearn now?) because it has better weight than an MT... Does, scratch that, did MDC do limited runs? I don't recall seeing any...

Yes they were capable of doing a special run. In my experience though not very willing.

I asked for a quote once for a car they had done. only this time to be done w/o #'s as I wanted to get decals to do a string with unique #'s.

The quote I got back was $3 higher than the retail for the car with #'s and I was told that they could not do the car unless it was currently scheduled for production. I was also told that no production was planned. Strange though that car was produced about 6 months later with #'s. I understand they have several gross of them still in stock.

Hey George, think we can make them an offer and convert them to Trainboard cars? ;)

The option of a special run decal set has been dropped on the argument that too few people would buy. Suppose a sheet had both N and HO size decals, and was priced at $10. Can anyone tell us how many would have to be sold to make the project viable?

SLSF Freak (Mike)'s gondola appeals to me.

Kiz, we need to get together and do Ms. Dee a Banana car -or container ! You keep putting her off..............

William, I have tried to work with MDC on a custom run and they are pretty aloof. Some emails go unanswered, then they finally wrote back to one email and asked for pictures, then they never wrote back. High minimum, too.

I am guessing that Bowser is your best bet because the mini is 100. 300 Trainboard cars would probably take a very, very long time to sell. And that is only in one scale.

I wish it was easier (read:shorter runs from the big players, like 100 or 150) to get custom runs done. I lucked out, I have two more planned using Bowser cars for the fall. Or, if you could buy say 100 Atlas cars and find someone to paint and letter them.

Since we have not agreed on the type of car, and are not likely to, selling 100 of any type is not going to happen. A multi-scale decal sheet might sell enough to cover costs; otherwise methinks this is a dead issue.
